So yesterday, 21st of December, I went to Fi Real restaurant for a family dinner. The owner was hosting a special Christmas event set at £20 a head for a 3 course meal. Being a vegan I thought this was a very interesting concept and one not done in Bristol before. I was excited to try this place out.
I arrived at 8pm and being located on old market, it wasn't easy to park. Once I found a space, I found the restaurant easy enough, which was towards the end of the street (opposite the sofa project). My first impression as I walked in was that it was very open plan and inviting. I was taken to my seat and began to relax in to the reggae music that was playing. I viewed the menu and noted there was a good choice of Caribbean food, with a veggie/vegan twist. I first ordered a pineapple and ginger juice which came out quickly. It was fresh and organic tasting and to my surprise was included in the £20 offer:-)
Before my starter I had soup, which made the offer even better as this made it 4 courses! The soup was spinach and coconut, with bread on the side. It was very tasty and filling. I then ordered my starter which was black eye pea fritter, which was served with a hot pepper sauce. It took a little longer to come out due to the live music but it didn't matter too much. The starter was creative and filling and the host came over to check mid way though to see if the food was ok, which made me feel taken care of. At this stage I loosen my belt as I was almost full from the dishes!!
A presenter came out at this stage and offered a speech, and presented a folk band. This was unexpected but a very nice tradition and broke up the various courses. I ordered my main course of curried Quorn chicken with rice and peas. This was a very hearty meal with good flavours even for meat eaters, I feel this dish would of cater their needs too.
I had a desert to finish which was vegan Christmas cake with vegan ice cream. This was yet again a good portion and flavoursome. By the end of this I was food drunk!
This place is really geared to give you a taste of the Caribbean with a healthier twist. The host will take care of you and make sure you leave with a full belly. If you want something a bit different and caters to vegans and meat eaters alike, Fi Real is the...
Read moreArrived at the restaurant and saw my friend was in distress. The drink he bought contained nuts, of which he is allergic to. There was no signs pointing out what did or did not contain nuts, no signs showing the ingredients that were used to create the dishes.
The drinks had no labels on them to direct people who may have these issues. When brought up to the lady who was taking orders she was cold and didn’t care. Acting like it wasn’t an issue they caused a serious allergic reaction. They also said to us “well this hasn’t been a problem before”, disgraceful.
I recommend implementing changes to your food standards and safety in future.
Re-Edit:
After a further response I am happy with how management have acted in response to the issues my friend has faced. I have asked him to respond on instagram in regards to this. I can understand my review may come across as angry or upset, which I was at the time. I do think this place is lovely and would never recommend someone to not eat here. I hope in future this doesn't happen to anyone else and I am happy to come back in and have a meal.
I have removed my previous response as I did not feel it represented my attitudes and was not a respectful review to provide.
I have changed my review to be more respectful of this and in future may change it again to be...
Read moreThis review is not about the food as we didn’t get a chance to eat here! We drove to Fi Real today after reading the great reviews! As we entered, we stood in the middle waiting for someone to appear, 3 people looked at us from the window of the kitchen, staring at us, they werent busy working, they were just standing there talking to each other and looking at us, giggling to each other without speaking a work to us, hoping we would leave. After 5 minutes a girl came out, with a filthy attitude, as if we were a massive inconvenience to her, no eye contact, not a smile, we asked if the place was open and she huffed back answering in monosyllabic grunts and disappeared in the kitchen to check ...she never came out. (It was 3 pm and it stated on google that they were open until 5 pm) We were very confused about the rude manners and decided to leave, as we made our exit, we turned around and they were still staring at us through the kitchen door! This surreal experience goes beyond bad costumer service, it enters the territory of unacceptable bad manners! If they chose to close the kitchen early, they could have communicated that to us in a much more professional and polite way! We are both in the catering industry Will not be back Learn some...
