Unfortunately, despite booking quite far in advance, the experience was quite chaotic. Firstly when we went to order food, we were told the kitchen wasn't serving food until we managed to establish that we had actually booked specifically for that purpose. Afterwards, we didn't receive quite a lot of food including a main and two starters (we did get a refund for these however), but it took a while for them to eventually arrive. The food we did receive was good quality though. Service was mixed. One person was quite friendly and understanding and apologised for the problems, and did go out if her way to apologise. Lots of the other staff seemed to be annoyed by us being there in the first place and we did feel like we weren't actually welcome. To be honest it did spoil the evening, as I was hoping for it to be a nice goodbye party with my friends, but given the way we all felt it wasn't what I'd hoped. There was definitely a cloud over the whole evening. I understand that the past two years have been hard, and as a former service industry worker myself I know it's possible to have a bad day. But this seemed to be everyone working there, which points to a wider problem. I hope this can be addressed soon so staff...

A good sized venue; decent experience but not excellent.

I went there for a night out with friends. The venue is large and quirky with interesting rooms. Unfortunately the music was not quite as advertised, but still good, especially as it was free entry before 11.

I felt like the venue could've been managed a little better. We were separated from our friends because they started operating a one-on-one-out system; but there seemed to be enough space inside to fit more people in without it being too crowded. This was made worse by the fact that it was raining. There were also spaces that were not being utilised on this particular night (e.g a terrace), and I'm sure there are reasons why, but ultimately it left the place feeling like there was more space that could've been used somehow.

Also the sound system wasnt the best and sounded a little worn out. Not a major problem but something I noticed as a big music fan!

I would like to come back to explore this during the day as it is also a restaurant I heard good things about. But there is a lot of competition in Bristols nightlife, so I expected a little more from this...

I am coeliac so have to be careful where I eat. I also have other dietary restrictions. I called up beforehand to check everything would be ok and was handed to the actual chef, which was awesome. I was so excited that they had a pizza I could eat (butternut squash puree in place of marinara sauce is inspired in my opinion). It was really yummy and enough to fill 2 of us up. I would have quite liked to be able to order a side salad or coleslaw and sweet potato fries with it but that's just me.

My only complaint (not really a complaint) is that the chairs at the table we were initially seated at were too high for me and, being wooden without a cushion, would have given me numb legs if I had stayed there. We just skipped across to another table as it wasn't too busy and the staff were totally cool with that so it was all fine but some cushions might be nice anyway. All in all it was a great experience and I defo plan to return so please keep the butternut squash option on the menu!

Vibes and atmosphere were great. Hip and cool spot in a beautiful building. This review is mostly just for the gluten free pizza. The crust was pretty tasty: lots of tapioca starch gives it a chew on which I enjoy, cooked well enough to be crunchy. My main complaint is that there was no cheese, and it looked like someone made it with a blindfold. I don’t consider myself picky, but I challenge you to look at the photo I took of my pizza and tell me that you think the creator ever laid eyes on it. There just ain’t a chance. No cheese, a negligible number of minuscule slices of onion, and ditto for the bacon. I’m sure their other pizzas are better, and mine was made in a rush, but cmon. Neapolitan is one thing, but this ain’t that. Just throw the dang cheese on please. I paid £16.50 for a tomato flatbread that took 45 minutes to arrive. Once again, sure, an outlier, but let this bear witness to the existence of the sham of a pie I received. Someone made this, someone baked this, someone served this, and never once did any of them question: does this pizza look appetizing?

First time visitor and booked Sunday Lunch. Both myself and daughter ordered The Pork Belly roast. 😋 Absolute delight , pork, crackling and gravy were top class . Plenty of roasted veg and potatoes, also cooked to perfection. Unhealthy but delightful portions! The Assembly room is atmospheric with rose ceilings and other decor showcasing it's historic past matched with unfussy furnishings to make it all feel homely. Noted that they'd put thoughtful sound breaks on the cieling which ensure peoples conversations are kept to their tables...Warm and snug inside despite zero temperatures outside. Staff welcoming and friendly. Oh yes trademark Bloody Mary was also perfect with for me just the right amount of tobascco to give us a warming kick. 10/10 experience.
