Gorilla Thai — Restaurant in Bristol

We ordered a takeaway through Uber Eats on Friday night, after having good takeaways previously, it was a large disappointment.

The driver was waiting at the restaurant for over 20 mins (which we could track) and the food for our order wasn’t ready for over 1:40 from the moment of order acceptance to being picked up by the driver. The driver also noted that many other delivery people were waiting for an extended period and he’d never had to wait that long for an order before.

I understand that Friday evening is always going to be busy, but if you’re unable to offer reasonable service please do not accept the order, as this was terribly disappointing as we were absolutely starving and waiting to the point that we had to get some food in the interim, as it took just short of 2 hours and is sub a 5 minute walk away.

It would appear that potentially they have been too popular (great I guess) to get food out in a decent time, and sadly the standard of the food was not the same as we’d had previously from fishponds, I imagine due to the busy kitchen having to churn it out asap. We won’t try this restaurant again sadly, despite only being 10 mins walk away as the food quality and service (actually cooking the food) was...

I ordered takeaway Pad Thai, Slow Cooked Beef Massaman and Sea Bass in Tamarind sauce, their Special.

I've had their Pad Thai and Beef Massaman before - as always was lovely and in point. The only slight is that I only got 1 potato, but the amount of beef made up for that The Sea Bass was a definite winner! Yum!!!! I had to call the restaurant back to let them know - we don't compliment enough!!!

Service and food were faultless and top-notch

I've read the negative reviews (always do), but I find them insane - and lazy - who orders delivery when you live 5/10 mins walk?!?!? Who actually expects quick delivery on a Fri or Sat night???? As for the flavourless and watery food complaints...I don't know - sorry you feel like that! As for bad smell.food...if you're eating in, tell them - give them a chance to rectify it...its common sense

We’ve been walking past Gorilla Thai for a while and honestly didn’t think it looked like anything special, but got reports from a few friends that it was fantastic and decided to give it a go. Wow, had we been embarrassingly wrong in our assumptions!

The front of house staff were so lovely, really friendly and helpful, and the food was INCREDIBLE. So fresh and complex and varied, I really think this is the best and most authentic Thai food I’ve had in years.

We had the slow cooked beef penang curry, the papaya salad, and a fried pork belly special, and they were all amazing. Sadly no pictures because as soon as the food arrived we devoured it like a pair of starving wolves. Beer served in iced glasses went down real nice too.
