Have been here a few times throughout the year and on different days of the week for food. The Sunday Roast is without a doubt the best meal they serve here. You can choose from all the meats and they have a decent vegetarian option too. Generous portions with lots of veg and gravy. As for the rest of the menu that's available on weekdays, I've tried a beefburger which was ok, but a bit on the dry side. When judged against burgers from other establishments, I've had better elsewhere. My last visit, I chose the Cornish hake. It didn't come with all the accompaniments described on the menu (I got a huge serving of Kale instead) so I had to ask for them. My friends also had to ask for missing items that were ordered or should've been included so although I enjoyed my dinner, it seemed a bit slapdash, like the chef wasn't in the mood to be at work that day. It was a Monday evening and far from busy so there are no excuses really. Overall I do like the Royal Oak and the food is of a good standard. They have a large outdoor space with plenty of seating which captures the sun throughout the day until about 8pm or so in the height of summer. They also have some play equipment for children. Read moreThis place is comically bad. We went in on a Sunday and the football was playing. Fair enough. After waiting 25 minutes in what was supposed to be a queue, finally got served. It seemed like the pub may have been understaffed which is again, fair enough. We ordered two pints of half orange juice half lemonade, Korean chicken skewers and a plate of chips. After waiting nearly 50 minutes, the chicken looked anemic and was served with an inedible 'korean sauce' and raw green pepper. (No sign of the green salad). The chips weren't actually too bad, until I decided to pour vinegar on them. The vinegar bottle was filled to the brim with dead fruit flies which covered my chips. Then to top it off the drinks were clearly made with stale orange juice. At that point we just had to laugh at how much of a clown show the actual afternoon was. I kindly received a refund for my chips, my partner left that disgrace of a plate at the table and we left. I think it is safe to say that we will never...
Read moreWe visited the Royal Oak on Wednesday morning to meet up with some new parent friends - despite having three babies, each with a large pram, the staff were really accommodating and kind, helping us to move from outside when it began to rain torrentially!
We all had meals from their breakfast menu, which were really reasonable value. The food was great, particularly for the price - it was cooked nicely and was of a good quality, which we really appreciated. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict, and when it was brought out, the waitress said that the chef had made extra hollandaise and a poached egg for him, as the original sauce had split (it looked fine to us, but was a really nice gesture!).
They also allowed us to each have a tab (per family), which made things really easy for us when we paid up. Thanks to the staff for a great time! We’ll definitely be...
