The Kandyan hosted our wedding reception last night. I cannot praise the team enough for the amount of care, effort, hard work and kindness they put into making sure we all had what we needed, a good time and no idea of how hard they work to make it look seamless. It was boiling hot yesterday but the team at the Kandyan worked tirelessly to give us the best reception ever! The food was sumptuous. Plentiful and flavoursome, we ALL enjoyed it. Your kindness and generosity were surpassed only by your competence and professionalism. A huge thank you from us. It is rare to receive such care and individual attention in the context of a commercial transaction! We wish you all the success for the future! Kai and Sam and guests

This is undoubtedly the best Sri Lankan restaurant in Bristol. We had the pleasure of trying the hoppers, seafood kottu, and lamprais—all of which were exceptionally delicious and carried the authentic flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine. Each dish reminded us of home, both in taste and presentation. The portions were generous and well worth the price. The ambience inside the restaurant was calm, cozy, and welcoming, enhancing the overall dining experience. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, providing excellent service throughout our visit. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a genuine Sri Lankan culinary experience in Bristol.

Such a tasty meal which took us back to Sri Lanka 😍 (although this was definitely spicier 🥵). We had to sit in their outdoor awning as we brought two dogs. The atmosphere wasn't ideal out there as their speakers weren't working and their heater was very loud 😂 We did get forgotten about a couple of times, but the food made up for it 👌 The homemade roti was 💯 The order: Vegetable rolls - £5.80 Egg hopper - £5.20 Pol roti - £5.40 Godhamba roti - £5.40 Chicken thigh rascal - £6.40 Devilled chicken - £13.60 3 curry deal - £14.25 (suchhhh good value) Caramelised pineapple - £6.50 Chaminda - £6.20 Visited March 2024

A really weird evening to be honest. A large group of us celebrating a birthday. All staff were super friendly, but food took forever to arrive. I have a few dietary issues but they adjusted a dish for me, however I ended up spending £9.20 on rice and carrots which wasn’t very tasty. Not fussed really but the cost wasn’t quite right. Service was alright once food actually arrived but several things brought out which weren’t ordered?

Without prior notice they wouldn’t let us break down the bill per person. £500+ charged to one person who then had to get money from everyone who attended. An absolute joke. Turns out they added a load of extra dishes to the bill (assume by accident) which we never had, meaning my friend ended up over £100 out of pocket.

I spoke to the staff at the end and they did apologise about the bill being charged to one person but they couldn’t rectify it and figuring out the bill took so long that we could address it at the time.

I wouldn’t return unfortunately. Never known a restaurant to refuse the bill being split per person before and this completely ruined my mates...

An incredibly disappointing experience from start to finish. Staff repeatedly brought out the wrong or missing items, and when the food did arrive, it was bland and unappetising. Three mains were left uneaten — either due to being completely tasteless or containing whole cloves.

We politely raised our concerns and asked for a discount on the uneaten dishes. At first, the server admitted the mistakes and asked each of us for feedback, but quickly became defensive. We had also declined an initial offer of a free drink before the food had even been served. When we raised the issues, the server became aggressive and rude, and later lied about what had happened to the owner/manager.

We were charged for a dish we didn’t order and had to return to the restaurant to have it refunded. The service charge was eventually removed, but only after we raised it ourselves.

Most shockingly, two unprovoked racist remarks were made. Completely unacceptable. Would...

Been here a few times and sadly had a terrible time tonight. We were warned it would take a while to be served but it took 1 hour 30 mins to get anything (and starters were brought together with mains). Only 5 other tables had people on them & most of them just received bills while we waited so it shouldn't have taken so long. I ordered the deviled beef which I had previously and it was a tasty dry spicy beef dish, today it was sweet and sour sauce all over beef chunks which wasn't particularly good. One of our friends also ordered the deviled beef and was given deviled chicken with no warning until it was served at the table because they "ran out" of beef. No apology from the waiter who seemed stressed to be waiting only 6 tables. We understand restaurants are stretched right now but this service and lack of apology was unacceptable. We had brought guests here previously being locals but won't...
