I would breakdown my review in: 2/3 starts for staff, 4 stars for the site and 5 for food. I’ve set 4 stars just not to be unfair with owner. So...the staff, first you can see the “too cool to be working at the pub” Atitude, not single time I saw the staff particularly the 2 girls (look twins) do a smile, we had our table booked for 1:30 arrived on time and at 15:05 a chalk board with next reservation name and hour (15:30) was slammed into the table with no justification, just put and walked out. Fair treatment for a table of 8...take my money! The site is cool, I believe it lacks some seating but maybe the way the pub is layout makes it difficult to accommodate more. The outside seating is amazing, facing the sun with lots of seating and a cool counter with high stools perfect to take in that vitamin D on a sunny day. The food, as a gastropub, they have the usual menu, couple more options than standard including a fish dish (photo attached). Their food was amazing, I had the beef roast and not only it was so tasty, Cooked in perfection but also had lovely details as sweet potato chips inside the yorkie and braised pulled beef on top of regular beef, kind of a treat and what a treat it was...Excellent roast! As per other reviews maybe I just had an unlucky timing but I have to be fair on my own personal experience, that chalk board thing was def a no, people get away by considering pub waiting service but we should take pride and excellence in everything we do

Not normally one to post a bad review but the roast we had yesterday was mega disappointing. 17 quid for a couple slices of dry (saved by gravy) pork, two very sadd, tiny halves of parsnip and some equally sad carrots just isn’t up to scratch. Roasted potatoes and veg just tasted of old grease. One roast was served without a Yorkshire that had to be requested. Having run a roast service myself this just smacked of serving up the ends of batches that had sat around too long and low standards. Better score on service as the serving staff were apologetic and brought more veg when requested but honestly this just wasn’t good enough. There are many other roasts in the city that are way better, swerve this one.

Very disappointed with my experience. 4 pound for 15 chips…26p a chip that were definitely just microwaved. Bar staff were a little snooty and very underprepared. When I questioned the amount of chips I had been given one member said “I could have given you less”£5 for a bottle of non alcoholic beer is embarrassing too. This place has the atmosphere of a graveyard. A freind bought a sausage for roll for £7…… expected a big one but it was smaller than a greggs one. Bad pub bad vibe

Looking forward to this meal but very disappointing. The steak was request medium as recommended on the menu but served rare and too much fat on it. It was awful. The burgers were dry and tasteless. The sticky toffee sponge with custard was served tepid and the dishes were cleared away when someone was still eating. Warned that staff were miserable and they were.

So to address your response. Firstly this is a very defensive response and explains a lot.

The moment the chef took that steak out and put it on the grill, you know it’s a poor steak full of fat. Check the cctv for what was left on the plate. It was served rare, not medium or medium/rare. It’s chef responsibility to get this right. We were visiting family and didn’t want the occasion spoilt by having to complain. You don’t appreciate this sort of scenario in your response. You shouldn’t even ask permission to clear the table when someone is still eating. Again check the cctv. It doesn’t matter if you asked, another member of the group might not be aware. It’s your job to be aware. As far as grumpy staff goes you should talk to the female that I paid the bill with. Not a smile or a question about the meal was offered.

We should have realised it was the end of the bank holiday and booked with someone else who would appreciate our custom more. All it would have taken is an apology and no excuses rather than look to place the blame on your customer.

No we...

I used to love this place but sadly it's gone downhill since the last time I visited around a year ago. I specifically pre-ordered a vegan starter and main from the Christmas menu but once the starter came out and I questioned the waiter about whether it was vegan I was informed that the starter had milk in it (worryingly I feel like if I hadn't questioned him nothing would have been said about the starter having milk in it even though it was labelled as vegan on the menu). I was told I could swap the starter for a dessert instead which I agreed to and asked for the vegan cheese cake. The waiter bought the desserts out and told us that he has checked with the chef and could confirm everything he was putting down on the table was vegan. Again, I had a gut feeling that something was not quite right so I found him and asked him again if the cheese cake was vegan because I have a dairy intolerance and I didn't want to risk eating it if it did, to which he responded that he wasn't sure if it contained dairy or not which obviously didn't fill me with confidence. They did offer another dessert but by this point I didn't trust that it wouldn't contain dairy. Overall, it wasn't a great experience. The fact that they don't seem to know what is in the food they are serving is incredibly worrying and I would avoid like the plague if you have any serious allergens, intolerances or if you are...
