If Michelangelo painted pubs instead of ceilings, he’d have created Whitmore Tap. We came, we saw, we conquered Super Saturday—armed with Guinness, patriotism, and a thirst that only Ella’s legendary table service could quench.
From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere was electric, like a rugby scrum but with more beer and fewer injuries. The pints flowed smoother than a perfectly executed set-piece, and by halftime, we were convinced we could make the national squad (Guinness-fueled confidence is a powerful thing).
Ella deserves a knighthood—or at least a player-of-the-match award—for keeping our glasses full and our spirits high. She delivered pints with the precision of a Sexton cross-field kick and had the patience of a ref explaining the rules to a football fan.
By the final whistle, we’d had enough Guinness to legally qualify as Irish and enough laughs to last until the next Six Nations. If you love rugby, good times, and service so good it deserves its own chant, Whitmore Tap is the place to be.
Would we come back? Only if we’re legally allowed to after the amount of...
Read moreReally nice job of refurbishing as it was a bit grim before. We sat upstairs in the dining room which is decorated really nicely. The food, in particular the starters and mains were outstanding. I had oysters both ways and my partner had the ox cheek donuts. Delicious. The mains were on another level. I had goose skirt and my partner had the pork belly. Both absolutely delicious. Best gastro food I can recall having in years. Very well cooked on the robata grill and the side orders, particularly the Jersey royals in nduja were beautifully balanced and thought out. We shared the s'mores and whilst they were great, they could have fed 4! Huge portion! Beer selection was good although would have been nice to have a dark ale on offer aside from Guinness. Goram in particular is great. I also had an old fashioned and although it was good, I felt that there wasn't quite enough bourbon. Very minor points. We shall definitely be back....
Read moreWe arranged to meet family here for a drink last Thursday 14th December around 4.30pm. As I was driving I had looked in advance to see what non alcoholic wines, if any , that you had. I was delighted to see on your web site and on your pub drinks menu that you had got a 0% Bottega listed. On arrival my brother in law asked for the non alcoholic wine. He was met by an extremely rude response from the barman. 'Don't even know what that is, we don't do it! ' My husband explained what it was and he again answered rudely ' I don't understand what you mean, don't even know what non alcoholic wine is' I showed him it on the drinks menu and he responded ' I've told you we don't have it!' We were so disappointed with this customer 'service' and the barman's wholly unwelcoming and rude behaviour . If you haven't got the wine maybe remove it from your menu. We won't be back after the service...
