Peking House — Restaurant in Broxbourne

Our first ever time trying Peking house. We always use Happy house takeaway but just wanted something a little better tonight. Unfortunately we didn’t get it! Thought you couldn’t go wrong with a restaurant takeaway. Happy house is far superior to Peking house. We only ordered 4 things. Which came to just under £30. It was 20 minutes late. Veg spring rolls, which were hard at the ends, didn’t get many, very thin. Pork spare ribs, very fatty, was meant to be in BBQ sauce, it was red, thin, transparent, didn’t taste like BBQ! Fillet steak pieces in teriyaki sauce, the steak was chewy, not very much of it. Teriyaki far far too much salt. Then the chicken balls, which in all out opinion were not half as nice as ‘happy house!’ Then the sweet and sour sauce was so thin and could see the bottom so quite transparent. NEVER AGAIN!! Waste of money. Poor quality food...

We had a delicious take-away from Peking House this evening. I have IBS and so have a number of dietary requirements, but I called PH before we ordered and Sam was incredibly helpful in finding out ingredients for me, and letting me know what could be done to assist me with my intolerances. He even called me back when he found out new information on a certain dish. The food was fresh, tasty and not at all greasy; portion sizes are good too. The order was ready in a short amount of time and it all looked great. We're looking forward to visiting the restaurant when we can, and will definitely be getting a take-away from Peking House again, especially when we can have family over. We were a group of 10 with hungry teenagers, 6 of us ordered the set menu - BIG MISTAKE. We received food for ~3 people based on the what the others ordering a la carte in our party received. The waitress made a point each time of saying "this is for 6" when delivering a dish to the table. Even the rice was a half measure. We complained to the staff, no manager seemed to exist or be available and we received various excuses such as "it's a tasting menu" . Food was also mostly delivered luke warm, at best the food was average and the restaurant lacks any ambience - plain white walls with little decor. A 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill, we asked for this to be removed. This was our first...and last visit to...
