First indoor pub visit with family.

COVID INFO Plenty of hand stations about and staff actively cleaning menus etc after tables were clear. Only one member of staff wearing a mask and no windows/doors open.

Our food Pie/chicken skewers fab Guest Roast was turkey slices which were chargrilled beyond being edible on some slices. Potatoes very sweet. Gravy delicious. Veg was sliced carrots a few peas and some cabbage. Massive Yorkshire. Looked good but burnt meat left a terrible taste. 6yo had cheesy pasta which was pretty inedible once it had cooled slightly (after another waitress had checked in with us) 2 pieces of cucumber. Half a tomato and some lettuce for 5quid. Desserts all lovely though 6yos small triangle brownie was so solid I had to cut it with a knife and a lot of force. 3quid. We spoke to the waitress 're pasta and burnt food and asked for the childrens meal to be taken off receipt as she'd eaten nothing. This was done but meant the drink was no longer free as part of the children's deal and came through at 2.10!!!! Almost as expensive as a beer..... On receiving the receipt we realised we'd been overcharged as some meals had been put through as large (regular) not small (light) though in hindsight they were all the same size. This was amended in a tense fashion.

All in all came away with a bad taste in our mouths and won't be returning which is a shame as we had good...

Back at the Sun, called on Sunday to reserve a table for x 3, pleased to get a table at short notice. Staff welcoming and professional as usual, our waitress Abbie, excellent, second to none knows her menu and makes you feel comfortable " thank you " Went for 2 x steak and chicken combo, 1 x beer braised beef brisket, salad, garlic bread, both dishes cooked to perfection, good produce, well presented, great portions, gin and tonics spot on, good choice of wines. Again I recommend and update you when I go again " will be soon "

First time at the Sun and wow service was excellent even though they were busy, instantly got a table on a Saturday night and was greeted by a welcoming member of staff. We ordered 1x cod and chips, the beer batter was crisp and dry with succulent cod, chips cooked to perfection along with perfectly seasoned mushy peas. 1 x classic cheese burger with fries and house slaw, homemade burger was tasty and good quality, fresh bun and cheese. 1 x hunters chicken, chicken was moist, perfect fries and tasty house slaw. All portions were good sizes and presented lovely. Good selection of craft beers and drinks available. Service was second to none, from happy, helpful and professional staff. Good choice of vegetarian options. Disabled access available. If you get the opportunity definitely give it a try, you won't be...

We were visiting Hoddesdon to see our six year old granddaughter appear in a dancing show at the local Spotlight theatre. She did well, recieving an award and medal so the family celebrated the event at the local Sun pub with an early evening meal and drinks.

Arriving at 530pm on a Sunday night the car park was nearly full and the pub very busy. Decked out ready for Christmas the pub had a warm friendly family atmosphere. We ordered drinks and relaxed for 10-15 minutes whilst our table was made ready.

The serving staff were attentive, friendly and helpful when we were making our selection of meals as not all dishes on the menu were available. We went for Hunters chicken, Scampi, Pizza, Chicken Roast and a Beef Roast dinner and weren't kept waiting long.

When ordering deserts our granddaughter wanted a 99 Ice Cream cone and Grandma had a quiet word with our waitress to see if a candle could be added to the cone to help mark this special occasion.

Despite the fact that they were busy it wasn't a problem and the ice cream cone with flake and lit candle was duly served to beeming smiles all round.

We had a great evening and need to make a special mention of waitress Charlie and give her a really big thankyou from the whole family for looking after us for the evening, arranging the candle and helping to make...

Edit November 2023. Ate here for a 2nd time. Chose their specialist rotisserie chicken again. Both times I had diarrhoea within 90 minutes. Please avoid. Nice, different food for a McMullens pub. Starters of Calamari and Buttermilk chicken goujons were nice. Sharing main course of rotisserie chicken, chips and coleslaw. Chicken a little disappointing. It was cooked well, but was supposed to have been finished on the grill, little or no evidence of this. Skin on fries were nothing special. Corn on the cob tasted as if it was pre cooked and vac packed, then finished off on the griddle. The desert menu looks great, but we were full, sweaty and pushing it for time so had to pass. I could eat here again, but I wouldn't choose it.

Such a wonderful evening. Staff were fabulous particularly Abbie, who was friendly, attentive, happy and had great customer service skills. The food was really delicious. I went for their amazing salad with rotisserie chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The salad was fantastic with juicy pomegranate and light, delicious dressing. We went for sundaes for dessert - Eton Mess and Banoffee. They were perfect. They have quite a bit of parking and it’s a super convenient spot, right at the end of the link road to the A10.

Not local for me but we regularly visit locally and go to the sun as it offers easy parking a good venue to relax and enjoy tasty food and drinks. The menu is good sized and fairly priced and the food is tasty and nicely presented. They have an area you can hire which is regularly used for gatherings for special occasions which we have used in the past to good effect. The layout is nice with various sections and plenty of seating. When warm enough you can sit outside. Staff always nice. Well worth a visit.
