I've been meaning to pop into Greenhood for some time, but I'm ashamed to say, we are coffee snobs, and are always wary of trying new coffee shops because there a few more annoying things in life than a watery coffee.
Anyway, enough about my issues! I popped into Greenhood on my way to the station. Very handy to park in Sainsburys and walk round the corner.
The first thing I noticed was the relaxed atmosphere. There were a few people inside working/relaxing, and although the decor is modern, it surprised me how cosy it felt. I bought a takeaway latte. I generally prefer a flat white, so I don't know what possessed me. I often find lattes a bit wishy washy. Anyway, as I sipped it on my way back to my car, I can honestly say the coffee was on par with my favourite coffee shop (which happens to be in Sheffield). It was delicious. Not bitter, but it does have an almost bonfire toffee taste about it - which probably makes it sound bitter, but it's not, it's smooth and intense. Just how I like it.
The pastries also looked great. I'll take my partner next time as he's rather partial to an almond croissant.
Looking forward to...
Read moreIt is a bright spot in the gloominess of Beeston High Road. Stores closing and an increasing number of Charity Shop ( no business rates ) and two major supermarkets, one on either side maybe wouldn’t the first place you would expect to find a non chain Coffee House.
The seating, decorations are quite eclectic and there are magazines that you won’t see anywhere else. Shelves with coffee beans and various devices for brewing great coffee lead you to the small kitchen area where the magic is made.
The coffee is their own blend and I have had a couple where the bitterness has overshadowed the smoothness of the coffee. But that’s only a couple of times. This is coffee lovers heaven.
I have one complaint and hence the drop of one point and the length of time between my visits. I suffer from social anxiety and find loud places extremely discomforting and there is something about the acoustics there that causes me an issue. I stress this is just an issue for me and I can’t expect to drink my coffee...
Read moreLovely cafe and even lovelier staff. They were all so welcoming and gave great vegan recommendations - I had the dark hot chocolate with oat milk which was recommended and rightly so it was very creamy and not bitter as they can sometimes be in other places. To my surprise every single bun was vegan so it was difficult to decide which I wanted! We bought two, the lemon & blueberry and the carrot & walnut which had a lovely cream frosting. The texture was good and the flavours even better. The only thing knocking off one star for atmosphere is I’d have liked it to be a bit warmer, given how cold it is outside. Next time I’m in the area I will definitely come back, especially for...
