Armstrongs — Restaurant in Bury

Arrogant management, food average and expensive. Definitely not what they use to be far better chippy’s, fish small not impressed, Ordered from Ubereats paid £4.50 delivery/service costs . Order arrived without my daughters meal .Called Armstrongs they had forgot it could I collect as they are busy 🤬 if I could have collected why would I have paid the delivery costs in the first place . Called Uber driver who offered to go back free of charge. I said to Armstrongs it would be nice if you gave him something for his trouble . Manager then had the cheek to call me back to say had I told her member of staff that they must give the driver something. No I suggested it would be nice and certainly what you would expect from a reputable business . Especially when they made the error, driver came back and guess what Armstrongs had not gave him anything not even a thank you. Disgusting Armstrongs you should be ashamed making other people pay for your mistakes . No cash was kept at the shop well I am sure one of the managers had a few pounds in their bag . Last time we will giving this place...

Really was poor service. The lady serving was not interested in service but was interested in going home.

Got there at 21.22 tonight and they said they switched the burners off and cannot cook me a jumbo fish or anything else for that matter.

Their website says 9.30pm closing, so why would you switch things off 8 minutes before?? Something the owner I suggest looks into as that will cost him business.

When i took what I could from the heaters (left over) the lady ask " would you like anything else".

I asked what pies were in the heater and the another woman was facing her back to me whilst in a low tone telling us what she has but said they don't have chicken and mushroom pies anymore.

I young lad was trying to justify his reason for switching the burners off in a confronting way but I was explaining to him if you say you shut at 9.30pm you should switch things off then and not 8-10 min before.

I have been going Armstrong for over 10 years and that was a really bad service...

As you’ll see with most recent reviews, they’re no longer the great chippy they used to be, had been going here for almost 20years and over the last couple years the owners have stepped back and now it’s run by people who have no skin in the game and couldn’t care less of the service or quality of the food, the last few times they’ve forgotten parts of the order that it’s starting to feel like they’re doing it on purpose and trying to scam people, might not be the case and it’s purely down to incompetence, the chips seem undercooked and the service is really slow, no urgency even when it’s busy, they seem to prioritise any delivery orders rather than the people who come into the shop, even ignoring people when they’ve been waiting 10mins , used to be a go to spot I’d recommend for anyone looking for good food, if you just want fish and chips then I guess it is what it is, if you’ve come because you’ve heard the reputation of the place you’re guaranteed for...
