Although it is a nice space and the food was mostly good, There was an issue with the serving times. While I was visiting with some relatives, which we paid separately for the food, their meal came first, and my meal only came 30 minutes after because I asked one of the waiters to go and check it to which she replied : they are doing it now, so I am not sure if they started 20 minutes after everyone had been eating already or if they were in the process of making the food. This was more aggravating because my order included the kids meals that were quite hungry by then. I was very hungry as well, and when I went to the counter to ask what was going on, the meals came out at that same time and the guy that seem to be in charge, possibly a manager just dismissed my request for clarification with: the food is on the table now, without an apology for the inconvenience that the delay in serving the food and starting to make it caused. Comparatively to all the pub franchises that I’ve tried in the area and other places in the north-west. Joseph Holt pubs seen in general to be overpriced for the meals that they serve either way (pub classics cost £11-14, similar to restaurants in Royal Albert dock in Liverpool, but here you are in the outskirts of Manchester with no view and a heater melting your back), and this just cemented the lack of customer service and gusto in the food making. My gammon seems to be undercooked, maybe because it was made in a rush, but I could be wrong. So although the space and decoration are very nice and maybe if you just go for drinks this might be a great pub to go after you visited Heaton Park. For example, I can not recommend it for a meal with family.

The Woodthorpe Hotel isn't just a pub—it's a piece of Manchester's brewing heritage. Built in the 19th century, it was once the family home of Sir Edward Holt, son of Joseph Holt, the founder of the renowned Joseph Holt Brewery. Sir Edward played a pivotal role in expanding the brewery and was instrumental in philanthropic efforts, including establishing the Holt Radium Institute in 1914, which later became part of The Christie Hospital. Today, The Woodthorpe retains much of its original charm, with period features that echo its storied past. The pub offers a range of Joseph Holt's ales, including their classic Bitter and award-winning lagers. The menu features hearty pub classics, and the spacious beer garden is a highlight during warmer months. For those looking to stay overnight, the hotel provides comfortable rooms that blend traditional decor with modern amenities. Located opposite Heaton Park, it's an ideal spot for both locals and visitors seeking a taste of Manchester's rich brewing history.

Well. Where to begin. I vowed that I would never return to this place after a disastrous Christmas day meal experience 2 years ago. Since then, the place is under new management and I visited before lockdown and found huge improvement. However! I went tonight with my friend for a meal and service was appalling. Firstly, we went to the bar to order our food and was asked the table number. When my friend said she would check, the barman rolled his eyes to his colleague which I found massively rude given the length of time we waited to be served. No apologies were offered to us for our wait and no apology from the bar person when I confronted him about his eye rolling rudeness. We were then seated at a table which was situated beside what appeared to be a fire exit door. It started to become chilly and we asked for the door to be closed and we were met with the reply "No! Need Ventilation " did not get this employees name, but had a beard and wore jeans. Since when did jeans become a smart look for waitressing staff? Asked to be moved to another table and this one had uncomfortable seating which has left me with a sore back.Lo and behold said fire door was closed when 2 girls who had taken our old table complained about being cold. Our food was served and my friend ordered hunters chicken and the vegetables were massively undercooked. For dessert she ordered cream but received custard as accompniment. It should be noted that there was a young couple sat near us and they were both given the incorrect order which the customer was clearly very annoyed about and no apologies for this were forthcoming by any staff. To sum up, the manager of this establishment is a pleasant woman with good customer service skills but she is badly let down by poor staff who don't want to be there and don't care about customer welfare. Oh _ and by the way Woodthorpe _ I work in the financial industry and cash/coin does not transmit covid 19 and you should not be discouraging use...

Review From a hospitality manager of 30 years ……..,The assistant and general manager were rude to several of my family including elderly members over the course of the evening , we’d booked and paid a lot money for the function room . The behaviour and overall attitude of these two individuals was Just shocking , it was either inexperience at dealing with legitimate feedback and queries professionally or just not caring about it or how things sound when it comes out of their mouths . The tall man with a beard (I don’t want to give him a title that includes manager ) was bordering on angry because I opened the glass ‘ fire door’ saying “ this is a fire door and I don’t see a fire!’ Rude!! This door had been open for the vast majority of the evening and yes the isn’t a fire , I replied , he didn’t look at me when talking to me and had no further sarcastic comments just walked off mumbling . There attitudes were aggressive from the start of the evening , showing a lack of ability to converse professionally . I get it hospitality has been hard for us but not so we’d perform like prison wardens , faces like slapped back sides all night , we’re a family who just wanted some understanding and not to be spoken to like we were an inconvenience . We will of course never return. I hope the brewery read this and perhaps impart some customer service training for these two individuals . It wasn’t all bad because we’re a determined family and we’d waited 18 months for this night . The 1 person who ran the bar when he wasn’t clearing plates and glasses and absent for other reasons leaving an unmanned bar ( not his fault ) , yes 1 bar person !!!, for a group of 50 !!! , was a nice , efficient chap ,thankfully. The food was decent and as described .They gave us a knife and more plates for a birthday cake , thanks . Well done both of you , you’ve had better days obviously but...
