New Lodge Fisheries — Restaurant in Calderdale

Good Evening All Just a small bit of information for all family's within the Halifax area, something to consider when getting fish and chips We had a meal this evening at lodge fisheries on the moor. The fish and chips was an average meal. However we went as a family and my young daughter of 7 needed desperately to use the toilet after her meal. Having just spent £18 on the meal for the family that we ate outside on the bench, my daughter needed to go to the toilet. The public convenience was closed outside before 6pm and as such we went inside. We went into ask the lady behind the counter if she could use the toilet. We were told a straight NO. We then asked to speak to the manager and she then also said NO. To put his into perspective 2 people working at this fish and chip shop denied a small child from using the toilet, with no discretion at all. They told us that they were the rules. How a local business can deny a small child to use the toilet is beyond me, to actually say directly NO, when she is waiting in the shop with me desperate to go to the toilet is disgusting and i am fairly certainly not allowed. The fish and chip shop does have a cafe with a toilet that is open to people who use the restaurant and they are allowed to use the toilet. However we chose to eat outside on the grass with it being such a nice evening. The fact that no discretion was used is beyond belief. So next time you consider going onto the moor and have fish&chips outside in the sun please be aware than you are not allowed to re-enter to use...

Not sure what has gone wrong at this place of late, as used to be excellent. Visited a couple of weeks ago, early evening, and ordered fish and chips, chips, and a pie. Simple right? Nope. On unwrapping at home, the pie, which had taken about 25 minutes, looked as if it had been caramelled into a soggy pile. The fish and chips had been scooped up and placed, in a bag, on the open fryer top to go cold while staff messed with this one pie (this I saw through the open hatch). Staff just seemed to be larking about really, as if it was a go-slow afternoon. Chips arrived in a tray and I found it was only about half full when I got this mess back home, and everything needed microwaving. It's really put us off going again because this is around 10 pounds+ for poor quality plus a long wait. And it's a shame because it's usually been good there. But if this is the (lax) shape of things to come we won't...

Can’t complain about the food, it’s lovely. But the service is poor. Left feeling totally embarrassed after the patronising attitude from the girl serving. A lady came in after me whilst I was getting a drink from the fridge. She asked if I had already ordered I said not yet but let her go in front of me. The lady had gone to the back so I assumed she had ordered. I placed my order and the girl at the till gave me a dirty look. Anyway it turned out the lady who I let in front of hadn’t ordered as I had thought. After some confusion she allowed me to order first and the girl behind the till was embarrassing me by saying to the lady “you were here first you should order” kept repeating it and making me feel bad for ordering first when I was there first! She dumped fish and chips on, was blunt with me and didn’t even offer a bag- so basically made to feel bad for ordering before the lady who came...
