Unfortunately we didn't enjoy our experience in the Robin Hood. We had pre-booked our table and were seated fairly quickly on arrival, drinks were ordered and shortly after being seated arrived. At this point all seemed well, but this sadly was the high point of our eating experience.
After ordering our food we were then left for well over an hour waiting for our lunches to arrive, which from what we could see appeared to be in keeping with others who were also desperately looking to staff. In an attempt to grab their attention to ask that one question, which they were expecting and dreading 'how much longer'.
When the food eventually arrived it was incomplete, luckily we didn't have to wait hours for the missing bits of the meal to arrive.
At this stage we were a little more than just hungry, but were hoping that the food before us would have been worth the wait.
However it wasn't, I ordered the ultimate grill and was presented with half a chicken. That looked like a flat tire, after hitting that nasty pothole you've been doing your best to avoid. A single burnt rib, two wings that lacked any form of seasoning. However still tasted better than the pot of coleslaw I was served. The so called rosemary and herb skinned fries, which we had to ask for. Sounded better on the menu than I was eating. The hunters chicken didn't fair any better. The so called chicken breast seemed like it was random bits of chicken pieced together, which were held together by two shoe strings of bacon.
As a positive the waitress did her best and was polite and helpful. The manager who we spoke to on request and take some money off the bill and offered their apologises, but these are the only other positives I can offer other than seated quickly and drinks came...

Pre-ordered our meals five days prior to our booking with two people ordering solo burgers, meaning no bread on the burgers. Upon arrival of their meals, we were informed they no longer did these burgers and they were removed from the menu. This restaurant had our contact details but did not inform us and just assumed that we would have different meals than what was ordered.
When we received the bill, they had added items at extra cost that we did not agree to when we ordered and asked for these to be removed from the bill. The manager came over to advise these were added to make the meals as similar as possible to the original order. When we advised that nobody made us aware that the menu had changed despite only ordering a few days ago, we were shrugged off.
The main concern here was the replacement burgers had come with bread buns and again no one checked if this was okay. We queried what would’ve happened if the people who had ordered this had ordered the meal due to the fact that they were gluten-free or suffered with coeliac disease. At this point, the manager gave a very patronising and sarcastic “aw are you okay” to the person who had ordered the burger. I find it absolutely shocking that a manager of a restaurant would be so blasé over dietary requirements and people raising a genuine concern for others who may have fell poorly over their assumptions.
I would therefore not recommend anybody who has dietary requirements to eat here as the manager clearly does not take this seriously, so one can only assume none of the staff do. Greeneking should take a very close look at this restaurant, and take steps before someone falls...
Read moreThe garden is set up very nicely for outdoor dining. There are a lot of posters advocating ordering using the GK app, but the waiting team were not really bothered, and came to table to take our order quite quickly - although it was quite quiet when we arrived. I did use the app to order food, and it was easy to use and clearly laid out. We ordered a bottle of fizz, which the server brought over, but didn't think to bring glasses - went off to get some and never came back so we ended up asking a second server. The food was OK, nothing special. Burger was nice, but I didn't care for the 'beer cheese' which was grainy and the crispy bacon, which was really fatty and not crispy as it was described on the menu. Food arrived suspiciously quickly so don't think it is cooked to order. I would recommend using the app as it took ages to get the bill, the servers were not really that good at circulating around that table areas as it was a lot busier by this time. In short, it's fine if you don't want anything too special. I would like to assure Jon that we did not ask for table service, we were very obviously using a mobile when the server came over and we explained we were just looking up drinks on the app. The server offered to take our order, we said we would do whatever was easiest for them, and they opted to take our order. Nice try in making me question what happened though, even though you were not there, I'm sure there is a word for that. As soon as the same emphasis is placed on the quality of the cooking as there currently is on the speed of the cooking I will...
