I really think my poor experience was down to a specific inexperienced staff, and inability to be professional or polite. I have never experience the same in all my years in Cambridge,it’s hard for me to write this as I appreciate how challenging it is to run a business or keep tabs on every incidence, but certain behaviours or scenarios should not be tolerated. After ordering a coffee and finding a table outside in the sunshine,I was asked to leave the table as a staff wanted it for a couple who had just placed an order indoors, the customers in questions interrupted and said they were happy for another empty table to be cleaned and allocated to them (there were several empty tables available). I suggested that the staff convert my coffee to a takeaway and I’ll be happy to leave the table, however she asked that I go in and do this myself. I was only trying to help and give up the table, but it seems she was not willing to assist with a takeaway option or offer me another table. I feel like being on my own and having one coffee wasn’t valued. I decided to take the customers offer of remaining in my seat whilst they have another seat allocated to them ,only for the staff to say to me “seat down then!”,at this point I did advise that I didn’t feel welcome and I was going to get a refund and leave,to which she responded “okay then!?”. I spoke to another member of staff regarding the situation, and to my surprise this staff came and stood right in front of us and just stared at me throughout my interactions with the other staff and then interrupted me,the whole thing was uncomfortable and I am still shocked that what could have turned out to be a nice few minutes having coffee outdoors just turned out to be an afternoon to forget.
I did make it clear that I am Local to Cambridge and was hoping this cafe would save me the trips to Mill Road for coffee, but I guess...
Read moreWent to try out this new place for lunch. There is no bicycle parking at all, despite being many bikes visiting including multiple cargo bikes. I had to lock my bike to a nearby lamppost. Once in, you had to wait to be seated. This wasn't terribly organised. We were seated about the same time as the people who came in behind us and they were then served and received drinks before we were served. When someone came to take our order, they didn't seem to be paying much attention. My mum asked for MLT and I asked for a bacon sandwich as well as a hot chocolate each. When she repeated it back, she said BLT and completely missed my Bacon sandwich. When the food came, it was nice enough but I would've appreciated knowing the bread was going to be toasted because I would have asked for it not toasted. The crust was too hard to eat with the sandwich as well. When they came to take our plates, we asked for the bill, waited about 15 minutes and had to get up and go and ask someone else when we were obviously forgotten about. Overall, I'd say it requires improvement where the service is concerned and more detail about the food so you know what...
Read moreI recently visited Stir (Old Swiss) on Cherry Hinton Road in Cambridge, and I was thoroughly impressed! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with a modern yet warm design that made it the perfect place to relax or catch up with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure that every need was met without being intrusive. It's nice to see staff with smiles on there faces whilst working, it makes for a much more pleasant experience. The coffee was exceptional; rich, smooth, and expertly brewed. I also ordered a Salmon Benedict for breakfast, which was perfect cooked and bursting full of flavour. The menu offers a great variety of options, catering to both traditional and more adventurous tastes. They also have plenty of options for restricted dietary needs and allergen friendly alternatives. Whether you're stopping by for a quick coffee or enjoying a leisurely brunch, Stir is a fantastic spot. Highly recommended for anyone in the area looking for quality coffee and a welcoming vibe! This is going to be my new go to place for coffee and catching up...
