I popped into Urbanchai on Cherry Hinton Road for a relaxed bite and was really impressed. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a mid afternoon chai or a casual dinner. I tried the samosa chaat and masala fries to start. The samosa chaat was nicely spiced with tangy tamarind, crunchy sev and a sprinkle of pomegranate, it packed a punch. The masala fries were truly outstanding, crispy chips tossed in an aromatic tomato garlic masala that hit every spot, I found myself reaching for more than once.
For the main I had the chicken tikka roll; its flatbread was freshly made, wrapped around tender, well marinated tikka with plenty of crisp lettuce and a cool garlic sauce, it was a satisfying, flavourful meal. I couldn’t resist topping it off with a peach iced tea and a Karak Chai. The drink was beautifully balanced, refreshing and vibrant, and the chai, rich, cardamom infused and comforting, was simply perfect.
The team at Urbanchai were friendly and chatty; ordering was easy and service was quick. Prices are reasonable too, with most dishes between £5 and £7 and mains around £8 to £10, great value for the quality.
All in all Urbanchai offers genuine Indian style street food with options like paneer paratha, chicken swaraha roll, chilli chicken, bubble teas and more. The family run feel shines through and I’ll definitely be back to try the vada pav and a saffron chai next time. If you’re in Cambridge and craving something different, this place is...

FANTASTIC! Finally an authentic North Indian Restaurant in Cambridge!!!! The parathas, curries, chaats! Chapatis! Everything is divine. I am going to be eating a paratha a day. Perfect and REAL parathas. Gorgeously stuffed with potatoes. Chicken curry and vegetarian soy curry to die for. A real salan curry, like it’s meant to be. Love the food so much. And I’m a hard core foodie who writes on Pakistani food blogs, so I know my desi (South Asian) food. Hope they maintain this standard. Love it. Perfect food to have with a karak (strong) chai (cuppa tea) The samosa chat was also a real samosa and not those fake frozen dramas. The chutney was also delicious. Family polished it off really fast 😂 Awesome attitude and service as well. LOVE URBAN CHAI! 5 Stars and I would give more if they had more to give!
My mum is thanking Urban Chai for the amazing buttered parathas she’s having for her Eid meal and we LOVED the rajma daal last night over rice. Took me back to my Saasu Mas Kashmiri cooking! Fantastic ❤️
CLEAN Hygienic and had the best karak chai evah! Am really fussy about my tea and have to share how...
Read moreI've been to Urban Chai a few times and have ordered the same thing most of the time, chicken shawarma wrap. This time, I decided to go for the lamb kebab. The food was ok and for me, the quality and service has gone down. When it first opened, the food was great and seemed to be worth the drive (we don't live in Cambridge) however this time it was definitely lacking in presentation, flavor, etc.
We also ordered a iced chai drink and "strawberry" bubble tea drink. The chai drinks used to be good but this time both drinks were really bad. The chai drink was overly sweet and the bubble drink literally tasted like strawberry milk, poured on top of ice with bubbles added (not like bubble tea). We didn't finish either one. This time was by far the worst we've experienced from this place. So much so that we won't...
