Good World — Restaurant in Canton

I don’t usually take time to make reviews but after this evening’s experience, I felt compelled to wave a big red flag over this place. DO NOT COME HERE ! We drove from London to celebrate Chinese New Year with the family and was really looking forward to having a delicious CNY dinner together. (We were a big group so booked 3 tables). We had even pre-ordered, as requested by management as they obviously foresaw it would be a very busy service. Disappointingly, when we arrived at 7pm for our allocated slot, our table was not ready and was not ready until 30 minutes or so later. When we were finally seated, we had to chase twice for our drinks order - which was simply a pot of jasmine tea, jug of water, J20 and a beer. Nothing too complicated! I wish I could say things improved but sadly our evening got worse. While 1 of 3 of our tables received all their food (albeit they had to return one dish as there was a long black hair in it!), two of our tables were going hungry. I noted a table who came in after us were getting their food before us so the kitchen was obviously erratic and disorganised!. Meanwhile there was a growing queue of impatient diners waiting for their reserved tables, and at one point I heard the manager tell a table to leave so the table could be released! Back to us though… We chased on several occasions for our order but after 1 hour and 20 minutes of waiting, the hungriness turned to ‘hangriness’. We ended up leaving and eating at McDonald’s as it was getting too late to find an alternative last minute venue. What a disappointing CNY dinner ruined by the greediness of management who had obviously over booked themselves. If they had not squeezed in diners over such a short period of time, and had not relied on a skeleton crew of service staff, they would have coped and won over a big group of loyal customers. Rest assured, we will not be visiting again and...

" Sorry, it's Sunday, it's busy."

Those were the parting words of the manager after 2 hours 15 minutes in the restaurant having received about 2 thirds of our originally ordered dishes.

I had booked a table for 11 people which became 12 on arrival, we were shown to our table in their kareoke room which seemed promising enough. A few late comers delayed our ordering a little but lunch was in full swing - we don't expect dishes to come all at once when eating dim sum, but usually they turn up at some point.

Not the case here.

We were drip fed dishes, which between 12 people goes very quickly, and then the food sort of stopped. We chased our order with the manager, detailing exactly what we were still waiting for after which were were given a few more missing dishes, and then again the food ceased.

By the time we chased again, they had lost our order and at that point we decided that their 10 minutes estimate would turn out to be another blunder to go wrong so called it quits. They also tried to charge us for food that we had never received and drinks they had double counted for.

For the most part, the dim sum was okay but many of the noodle dishes were bland.

However, the (lack of) service and attitude towards it left the worst taste by far. A certain other dim sum restaurant in Canton never has problems on a busy Sunday when I go with this many people.

ZERO STARS - TERRIBLE FOOD AND APPALLING SERVICE! I ordered roast duck, but what arrived was not up to standard at all. The skin was dull, limp, and grayish—it looked more like steamed duck than proper roast duck, which the skin should have a crispy texture and a glossy reddish-golden sheen. I didn’t touch the dish and refused to pay for it.

When I raised this issue with a member of staff called Lily, she refused to take the dish back, denied there was anything wrong, and then began shouting and arguing with me in front of the entire restaurant. I felt humiliated and disrespected.

Fortunately, a chef happened to pass by, immediately saw that the duck was not good, and removed it from both our table and the bill. Shockingly, Lily continued to argue with the chef in front of us and the other customers.

The food was bad enough, but the service was absolutely disgraceful. I would not recommend this...
