Visited here many times, always come back as the food and ambience is so good. The pizzas are some of the best, as are the desserts. Really nice selection of drinks. Decor is lovely and feels cosy and inviting. Staff are generally always really pleasant. Great half way point to meet friends so a regular haunt.
Our recent visit was last night. A few things highlighted for us after noticing the same pattern on recent visits. The service is hit and miss, it can be slow and had experiences on one too many occasions where we weren’t checked upon and asked if everything was ok. Waiting staff always very busy and can be a struggle to grab their attention. We ordered starters and mains (surprised that the waitress didn’t take our order down on a pad or iPad). Calamari was the best my partner had had for years (he orders elsewhere and it’s rubbery and lacks crispness). Flatbread and beetroot hummus was delicious. There was no lamb left on the menu that my partner ordered for his main (our table was booked at 7.30pm so not too late so this was surprising, it was busy however but still disappointing). My salad was lovely however I ordered the plain greens and grains and it came out with duck (I don’t eat this). The salad had a little too much dressing on and I doubt it was made up fresh after the error as arrived back so quickly, however I ate it anyway. Perhaps a little expensive for a salad, (at £15 needs bulking out more). The Mac and cheese was fab but a little on the small side. My partner ordered a passion fruit cloudy lemonade and was given soda water. The raspberry soda water was gorgeous, I ordered two. Think orders need to be logged to avoid errors and there was a lack of attention to detail on this occasion. Crumble was delicious, always order this as it’s the best I’ve had out!
Will keep returning as the food is so good, just a few things to look at to improve the experience for loyal...
Read moreVisited the beautiful pub today 02/08/25 at 12.30 pm . Service pretty good . We ordered 2 x the brisket beef sandwich with fries and 1 fish finger sandwich on what shpuld have been a rustic roll. The brisket beef sandwiches were lovely i wouldn't say " exceptional " . The fish finger sandwich was i thought terrible . A skinny " very white " none rustic role with 3 literally finger sized , literally " fish fingers " in the middle cut in half diagonally & leaving very little inside each half . I was extremely disappointed with it as this was for my dad . I mentioned this to our server and she apologised very nicely because it wasnt to my expectations. I felt that i hadnt fed my father properly because the sandwich was all roll and very little else . I understand what they've tried to achieve, it sounds lovely on the menu but looked disappointing on arrival at the table . I think for what we had it was expensive, the pub is beautiful as i mentioned , the servers are perfectly lovely but i had a much better quality club sandwich at my local garden centre , sunnyside last week which was three slices of bread packed with filling so much so i struggled to eat it all and for similar money to the beef sandwich at the Quarndon fox . We had 2 glasses of wine which is never cheap , a recordilig none alcoholic strawberry & lime cider a glass of lemonade , one latte & one cup of tea . The bill was just shy of £74 .. I realyse that the pub is beautiful outside & inside and in a lovely location but i think its over expensive. There were a fair few people in the pub but not all eating so it looks popular and i dont want to take away how...
Read moreI love the fox and have been going for years. The food is always good. Unfortunately on this occasion, things were a little off. Food still great but service a little slow. I say slow and not poor because the staff were lovely, just not very attentive and given that this was a Monday afternoon and we were almost the only diners in there I felt it was a little poor.
Started off well, shown to our table and drinks orders taken. Drinks arrived pretty quickly and placed the food order. Food came out quickly and was piping hot, very nice.
ISSUES. Nobody once came to see if we wanted more drinks. Our glasses were empty for at least 20 mins before we got the attention of someone. It was then almost an inconvenience.
We finished our food and sat with empty -plates for almost 30 mins.
Someone them finally took the plates away and offered the pudding menu, we ordered pudding but again no question about more drinks.
This was a meal for my mothers 72nd birthday and given that we were pretty much the only people there, I thought they’d almost be overkill on the service but quite the opposite.
This meal was not cheap. Mains and pud only and nowhere near as many drinks as we’d have liked and still £160.
I left a little disappointed. I find it unbelievable that staff would leave customers with empty glasses and empty plates for over 30 mins when they literally had nobody else to wait on?????
Aside from the lack of service, they could have had a £200 bill if they’d have just asked about more drinks! Are they running a business?
Not the review I am sure they’ll want but sorry, not good enough on...
