The White Horse — Restaurant in Charnwood

Visited on a busy Saturday night. Had a table booked for 8pm which due to unforeseen circumstances we arrived around 10-15 minutes late. Went to the bar to ask where we need to go, barmaid happy to help us and spoken to what seemed like the bar manager to which she said 'really?? but they're 15 minutes late' loudly. I don't think it's best making your customers feel bad straight away as soon as they walk through the door, and if you have something to say maybe don't say it directly in front of the customer.

I ordered the catch of the day, which on this day was salmon. For the price it was terrible, overcooked and tasteless which I was disappointed about. The only redeeming factor is that the waitress's that came to our table were friendly and checked in with us regularly. My friends also mentioned that the food was pretty bland overall and nothing special.

An outside observation is that I think they're trying to do too much on the menu, a chef can't be expected to keep all dishes to a high standard if they have around 30+ to do. They offer fish, burgers, pizza's, steak, sandwiches (up until 3pm). If they had one or two dedicated areas I think they could improve further.

Would go back for drinks...

Right we're do I start .. We arrived for a meal at lunch time on a Monday in December We were shown to a table a little cramped but fine The waitress came to take our order were we discovered that the pizza was off and the other two meals we won'ted were also off .. We were fumming this should have been pointed out to us when we were seated ...This is the point we should have walked !!! We ordered with side's with our meal which they brought as starters !!! and then we waited and waited getting colder and colder (I might add we all in warm clothes) We also had to suffer the grumpy chief screaming his orders ... Eventually our meal arrived to which my first thought was small but looks good how wrong I was two of us had burgers both meals were taste less and mine had so much cranberry sauce on it the bun became soggy and horrible at which point I gave up and left it.... our third dinner stuffed the worse her's was a oily and cream congeal mess and she abanndand hers after the first mouth full At this point I was all for complaint and making a fuse but my company's were very cold and feeling poorly and just wanted to leave and go home.. We will most definitely...

Went for a chilled light lunch with my wife. Easy to find, car park plenty of spaces. Going through from the back some lovely outside seating areas. Went inside and, being a Monday lunchtime, very quiet but still a nice atmosphere. Two very personable, attractive young ladies were behind the bar and serving food. We ordered our drinks and the barmaid said she would bring them over to our table. Perusing the menus there was so much choice and most dishes with a bit of a twist. Some of menus below. If you go on website you can see them all. Didn't have to wait too long for food. We had a special of breaded whitebait, prawns with chorizo and a triple toasted brioche with beef short rib and gherkins. All extremely tasty. All in all what a lovely lunch in a very atmospheric pub and will definitely be back. I must remember in future to take a couple of pics of food because it looked as good...
