Avoid avoid avoid!!! Ordered the chicken platter starter, half of the chicken was frier burnt either overcooked or oil too hot (imo) the other chicken was part raw, we did not eat it, then the mains I ordered a mini mix grill, the only request I made was runny egg, they failed in this as well, my mini grill was poor, my friend ordered a steak with a pepper sauce medium, we were impressed... I have no idea how they burnt the outside overcooked half of it the other half was undercooked. The sauce was terrible. To be clear if we were offered a free meal we would refuse. No check backs for starter or main and the place was dirty, glasses left on tablets, bar left wet with spillages. If I could give minus stars I would minus 5 Hi Natalie, thank you for your reply, I cannot seem to reply so my only choice is to alter this review. I have been twice in the last few months, it was poor the first time and much worst this time, thus the review, when told the staff could not really have cared less, to serve the starter burnt and part raw looks terrible on whoever cooked it, then of course the server allowing it to leave the kitchen, after that there should have been a raise in game from the kitchen and front of house. I could carry on, training is either not given or ignored, I hate with a passion staff handing me my drink from the top of the glass, sure handle where I drink from.... To have any chance a full re-training and raise of game needed, I will not, nor will my friends be attending anytime in the future

Popped in for lunch to Hartwood Hall as I've been before and didn't really have an opinion on the place but this time I was really disappointed with the food. The staff were polite but apart from when ordering there was no there interactions with them. I ordered the steak sandwich and I wasn't impressed, the steak clearly wasn't freshly cooked and was dry, it came with some beef dripping gravy but I must of misunderstood the description because I barely got a dripping of it.. barely enough to dip anything into. I paid extra for "loaded fries" with cheese and bacon... I'm sure I seen a slither of bacon in there somewhere... I'm sure of it. My partner had thesteak and ale pie but the crust was so tough it couldn't be eaten. My little one had pizza and it was so soft and soggy I couldn't even cut it without it turning into a sloppy mess. Overall I paid £40 for lunch and wasn't impressed, it wasn't particularly busy, just seemed like that's the standard of food. I've tried to be as honest as possible in this review and not overly critical but... I won't be returning.

Food was good, there's a lot to choose from on the menu and there is sure to be something everyone will enjoy. I got the Ultimatum BBQ Grill Platter, and although I was not disappointed with the portion size, the food quality itself was a little lackluster. The 1/2 chicken is very difficult to eat due to there being so much bone in the way, the ribs were rather 'wet' and mushy as opposed to being succulent and firm like they should be. The chicken wings, Mac and cheese and chips were very good though. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff and service was excellent, and pricing is good too. I can see myself coming back here if I was ever in the area again.

Updated review. Short review : Standard British pub with decent food, tranquil aura for a quiet dinner.

Detailed review : We visited this pub 10 days before Christmas 2022. Located at a stone's throw distance from Chorley hospital, this place is part of the Greene King chain of pubs, so benchmark hospitality expected.

The place was reasonably crowded for a Friday night and we managed to get a table despite not having a reservation. The interiors had pleasant Christmas decor and the staff were dressed in Christmas jumpers which was charming. Good ambience with comfortable seating made it an idyllic location for a quiet dinner.

We had the Rocking Rudolf cask ale as they had run out of the Christmas special cider. The ale was OK, less refreshing and malty than what we expected.

The pub does have a Christmas special menu with set meals which are reasonably priced. As this place specialises in grill, we shared the mixed grill and a side of veggies with parsley butter between 2 of us. Mixed grill is a whooping 2000+ calories filled amalgamation of grilled 4oz steak, 4oz gammon, chicken breast, black pudding, fried egg, raw vine tomatoes, boiled peas, crispy chips, onion rings and 2 sausages.

We opted for medium rare and we got what we asked for, a good medium rare steak. No complaints.

The onion rings were perfect. The gammon was salty as expected but the chicken breast was disappointing. Charred, bitter and dry. The condiments and sauces provided were our much needed saving grace.

I enjoyed the steak, sausages and onion rings the most. Fascinating what a little bit of seasoning can do! We were quite full for under £25.

P.S: From my prior visit I learnt that the kitchen does close early, so do call to avoid disappointment. And they do not display sports, so no distractions and one can focus on conversations.

Previous review - Jan 2022 Famished me rushed to this place post my shift, only to be informed, albeit very politely, that they stopped serving. 2030hours/0830pm on a Saturday night!!? Sigh! The search for...

I was excited to visit here after being told it had gone a lot better. On arrival we were given menus, seated, drinks. One ordering the menu stated I would get all these things with a sunday dinner but at the bottom it said more food to include, i enquired about this and for 10 pound i got hardly anything and would have to add the extras.. so i added the pigs in blankets (it also says on the menu it would be served to my table with extra vegetables so i could help myself as and when i wanted) my meal came, no extra vegetables, and over priced drink (I asked for about 10 different drinks to be told these were not stocked and then given a choice of 3 drinks). My partner hated every inch of his meal and received a quater of a full pineapple on his plate which when he picked up to eat as it was too tough to cut staff stared at him and started speaking amongst themselves making him feel uncomfortable to the point he rushed his food so we could leave! We then went to pay and was allowed to leave, once getting home and looking at the reciept i realised my card had been declined and came straight back, manager came over and seemed polite and asked the woman who had made the mistake to correct it and told her to offer us something. We was not offered anything once transaction was complete we got a very sharp thanks and she walked off almost as if it was our fault. I am not coming...
