This place gets 5* stars for (kind) service (to humanity).
The most patient barista in the world, dare I say, spent more than 10 minutes patiently answering a discerning customer's detailed questions about food ingredients.
Does this have gluten? Is there dairy in this? Do you have a drink without sugar? What about this sandwich, what's in it? As a small queue started to build up behind this customer and the barista played it cool. He kept the conversation going with a light-hearted tone, and the customer left happier than when he entered. The most impressive thing was that the barista's shift had come to an end, but he was in no rush and didn't need to serve the customer, but stayed on until the job was done and the queue cleared.
As for the coffee, it was a whole new experience as he put cardamon in it, which was a fresh taste sensation for me and something I'd recommend trying. The chocolate-raspberry brownie we had was simply divine.
I didn't try the sandwiches, but there is limited seating, so it's mostly a takeout kind of place. I'm sure this place will get busy in winter so consider this is an Italian-style standup cafe.
So, drop your order, make all the requests you want, drink your coffee, and leave with...
Read moreThis review is a year overdue, so I apologise to the lovely staff, who I wish I could have written a review for sooner. I had a short business trip in Edinburgh last summer and I stopped in at Bobby's for a coffee and breakfast. The café is very small with just a few tables and seating options by the window, but it is also great for takeaway food and drinks (and a lot of locals seemed to be getting things to-go). I asked the staff behind the till for their recommendations and they suggested a toastie filling for me. I sat by the window table, which was really sweet and a nice reflective place to watch the world go by. Overall, it was a very down-to-earth café - in terms of the interior space, but also the food flavours and the staff members. Small but homely, the food and coffee were both very tasty. The server even made my day by saying that they liked my dress - they didn't realise how important that small comment was to me that day, as I had stressful events ahead of me! Thank you for giving me a great calm and warm start to my day in Edinburgh last summer. If I'm ever back there, I'll be sure to pop in. Highly...

My husband and I had spent ages trying to find somewhere to grab lunch while visiting the National Museum of Scotland without having to go too far away but most places it seemed to be a sit down meal which would come to £30 min between the two of us, far from the cheap and cheerful we were looking for!
Spotted this shop and was exactly what we were after! Good prices, something we could enjoy on the go. Perfect.
However it went above and beyond that. I don't know why but these sandwiches were AMAZING! Or maybe they just seemed it because I'd been getting so stressed trying to find somewhere to eat without spending our entire day's food budget!
We enjoyed the food from here so much, we actually purposefully drove back in Edinburgh on the last morning of our holiday to grab our lunch to eat on the return drive home.
I MIGHT have even decided to eat mine for breakfast before we'd even got back to the car and sent the other half back to the shop...
