We visited Frankenstein with my partner around 3pm on a Wednesday, and the place was super quiet. Even with hardly anyone there, it still had this cool, imposing vibe thanks to all the Dr. Frankenstein-themed memorabilia and décor. The whole pub is decked out in a way that totally fits the spooky story, which gives it loads of character and atmosphere.
When you walk in, the eight-foot tall Frankenstein's monster greets you and you immediately get to choose between heading up to the mezzanine or sticking to the first floor. We decided to check out the mezzanine first, just out of curiosity. It was basically empty except for a few people—probably regulars—hanging out at the front. It was nice enough but felt a bit too quiet for us what with the upstairs bar not being in use, so we headed back downstairs.
We found a cozy little corner on the ground floor and grabbed a food menu. Honestly, we were surprised by how much choice there was! They’ve got a decent variety of food and a ton of drinks, which is always a bonus. I can imagine this place absolutely buzzing with uni students in the evenings—it’s got that vibe of a spot that would get really lively after dark.
Overall, it’s a pretty cool pub to chill in, especially during the day if you want a quiet spot. The theming and décor are on point, the menu has plenty of options, and it’s got a nice mix of cozy and quirky. Be sure to stay a little bit longer for the revealing of the monster that occasionally happens! Definitely worth checking out, whether you’re after a laid-back afternoon or a...
Read moreTo be honest I expected more of this place. When you think of a frankenstein themed place you think spooky environment, sounds, visuals, music, food, drinks. The decoration inside was very nice don't get me wrong, but lacked something.. They could have had a themed menu with drinks and food. Instead they have a usual pizza menu and 1 themed cocktail which for it's price it was rather small. They could have had a light show with static charges and whatnot, instead they only stick to the immovable decoration such as wall fixtures and a life sized (I think) mannequin of The Monster which were cool but still I expected something more. They could have had spooky, monsterish music but it was the usual tunes you listen to everywhere else. They also have screens that they play one Frankie movie on loop, which was exciting just like having a pizza in home watching your favourite movie, but they could have had different movies in each screen and you decide which one to watch. Maybe it was different years ago and I would love to have seen it. Nevertheless we had a blast on our vacation, the food was very tasty and the drinks also, a bit overpriced but still so so good. Staff were very polite, helpful and attentive. Very good job to the waitress that was assigned to...
Read moreWe come here every time we come to edinburgh, we last came around a year ago. I really like it here but this time it wasn't the same, the well known animatronic wasn't working which was a real shame. The food was just average, we knew it would be it always is here we just thought we would eat here as it's one of our favourite places to visit but it's pricey for what it is, I would say weatherspoons quality of food but at a much inflated price. Service was good again always is in here the staff were lovely. Just a couple of things this time as mentioned animatronic wasn't working and lastly, we saw a mouse probs a few inches in length run across the floor to the bar, I told staff immediately but they didn't seem bothered. Just a bit weird for a place that serves food, it didn't bother us too much but if the wrong type of person saw this they would of most likely kicked off plus it did put my partner off eating the rest of her food which I understand. Just an average visit this time which was a shame we we been here every year for like...
