Another new bakery in and around Edinburgh that is very popular but for good reason? I had been wanting to come here for some time but my visit had been delayed because it is little out the way and the one time we did try and go (around midday) they were sold out. This time we purposely went early to ensure we got some goods. Upon arrival at around 10:30am (opens at 9am) as anticipated we were in a long queue. Thankfully we had the patience to find out what the hype was all about. 30 mins later we were being served. The bakery is surprisingly small but they do have some indoor seating that we managed to snatch. Some kind family gave us their table when they noticed we had a hungry baby. Fortunately they still had every item available but unfortunately it meant that I had immense pressure, from the hundred people behind me, to make a decision on what to get from these mouth wateringly attractive goodies. I stayed calm and made the sensible choice of buying multiple items. I was pleasantly surprised to see focaccia sandwiches. They had two options of those so I got both, hoping that my wife would like one of them. Alas, she didn’t like the sound of either (she’s a fussy bugger) so I heroically took on both. Your welcome. The sandwiches were decent, with roast potatoes inside one, but the focaccia was a bit too oily for my liking, and the flavors, while nice, weren’t particularly memorable. But we weren’t here for sandwiches—bring on the pastries! Firstly, we had a citrus almond bun which reminded me of a yum yum but fresher and less artificial. Very enjoyable. Next up was the pistachio croissant. Beautiful in appearance and in taste. It was lovely and buttery. Perhaps not layered as well as other croissants I’ve had but the pistachio filling made up for it. Moving on to the strawberry and custard cruffin. As cruffins should be, a crunchy outer from the granulated sugar and a soft moist centre. The addition of the custard was welcomed but I would have liked a little more strawberry filling. Now for the star of the show. I can’t remember the exact name of the pastry but it was a chocolate and hazelnut pastry bun thing. I didn’t want to eat it because it looked so dam sexy! Now normally if you have a lot of chocolate in a pastry it can be a bit too overpowering and takes away the qualities of the pastry but this hit the spot!! The flaky outer texture made for a messy affair and then goosebumps immediately hits when you reach the chocolate filling. It was absolutely delicious and rich. The subtle hazelnut complemented the flavours nicely. Finally, ending the feast was the pistachio bun. Incredibly sweet but irresistible, even after all the other pastries. The soft, moist dough made it a delightful finale to our indulgent morning. Embarrassingly, we gobbled all the above in a space of 1 hour whilst out for a nice walk in South Queensferry. Oh, I forgot to mention we got a couple of hot chocolates which were fantastic.

Final Thoughts Despite the crowd, the staff were warm and polite, handling the rush with a smile. The bakery’s menu seems to change frequently, offering a great variety and pushing the boundaries of traditional pastries. Though the space may be small for the demand, they’re clearly nailing it.

Overall, we’re so glad we finally made it here. It was well worth the wait and one of the best bakery experiences I’ve had. Well worth the 40 odd...

Finally got to Dune after ages of drooling over their instagram posts. Waited until I was sure we could get through early enough to not be disappointed. With a 3yr old and newborn in tow, ended up getting to SQ around 11am on Sunday. There was a decent queue so was worried I wouldn't get what I wanted. However, there was plenty to choose from (sold out of cherry croissaints though- next time!). They were a staff member down but everyone was served fairly quickly and the staff were so polite and kind. We've been to a fair few bakeries in and around Edinburgh, some hidden gems, some viral etc and honestly, Dune lives up to the hype. Ive found some "viral" bakeries, the items taste stale or have little taste at all and been disappointed. Not here. Quick review of what we had: Iced latte- nothing fancy (they have syrup options though if thats your thing) but hit the spot. Nutella cookie- 3yr old very much enjoyed this. Sounds strange but you could smell the ingredients; buttery, sugary, chocolatey. Clearly high quality which in turn, makes high quality ingredients. Chocolate and caramel tarte- this was unreal. Melt in the mouth. Perfect ratio of chocolate, caramel, and the base. Cookie sandwich- toasted marshmallow, chewy crunchy cookies, and the best bit is the caramel. I want a jar of that so I can eat it with a spoon. Biscoff cinnamon bun- soft as a pillow. These buns can be hit or miss at a lot of bakeries and seem to be dry as the desert but not at Dune. It was beautifully fresh. Perfect icing ratio too. Monkey bagel- never heard of this before but I wish id bought more than one. A little crunch outside, inside was so soft and plenty of cream cheese. Sausage roll- I never tasted this one but to quote my partner, "thats one of the best sausage rolls I've ever had". Chorizo and cheese pain suisse- this was on my list as "must get". I'll be recommending it to everyone. Like all the pastries, its a work of art. Visually stunning. Its delicious and the right amount of chorizo and cheese. Wish we had Dune closer to home, but so worth the travel in...

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the City – Dune’s Bakery

Dune’s Bakery is an absolute delight for anyone who appreciates quality, craftsmanship, and a truly unique bakery experience. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re greeted by the irresistible aromas of freshly baked bread, pastries, and treats. The interior is warm and welcoming, with a charming atmosphere that invites you to linger and savor every bite.

What sets Dune’s Bakery apart is their commitment to using the finest ingredients, which is evident in every item they make. Their breads are a standout – perfectly crusted on the outside with a soft, airy interior. Whether you opt for a classic sourdough or one of their signature creations, you’re guaranteed a flavorful, fresh experience with each slice.

The pastries are equally exceptional, with an array of options ranging from buttery croissants to decadent fruit tarts. In fact, I’ve fallen so in love with their pastries that my family and I have driven all the way from Glasgow to Queensferry multiple times just to indulge in their delicious offerings. Every visit feels like a special treat, and each pastry is better than the last. It’s safe to say Dune’s Bakery has become a beloved destination for us.

Their cakes and cookies are beautifully crafted, offering the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. Whether you’re grabbing a morning coffee and pastry or picking up a custom cake for a special occasion, Dune’s never disappoints.

The staff is always friendly and attentive, adding to the overall charm of the experience. It’s clear that the team at Dune’s takes great pride in their work, and it’s reflected in the consistency and quality of their offerings.

If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by Dune’s Bakery. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to return again and again, always discovering something new to love. For us, it’s become a family tradition, and we wouldn’t hesitate to make the trip from Glasgow every...

First visit and waited around 15 min in the queue outside, this was in a Saturday so one of the busy days, picked 4 cakes and 2 take away coffees. Around the £22 mark not cheap but best pastries ever especially the pistachio one very nice and one would have been enough for 2 with coffee, we took the others home to try which were also excellent. Waited a bit on coffee as around 8 tickets in front so about 15 min for them, possibly a separate coffee hatch at the side of the building for takeaway coffee only might be good and faster as the coffee was very nice too. Fresh breads inside too for takeaway and I can see why they sell out daily. Friendly knowledgeable staff on this visit as I was asking about the cakes and pastries. Only 2 or 3 small inside tables but plenty seating in South Queensferry to sit outside and enjoy.Definitely returning for more pastries as they were one of the best.
