Golden Bite — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

Absolutely AMAZING experience. We went as a university society with an absolutely massive group of people (we did call ahead to try and warn them of the horde that was about to descend). They handled the shed load of people without even breaking a sweat, and were super lovely as well. I felt really bad about bringing so many people at once, and they did have to stay open an extra hour for us, which I felt awful about, but they were absolutely lovely about it!

In terms of food, no notes. Stunning. It ate, literally. One of the best chippies I've ever had, and definitely top in Edinburgh. Even after serving 63 of us the food was still top quality and utterly delicious. Batter crispy, chips the perfect ratio of fluffy:crispy, and well salted as well. All for a very reasonable price too, considering we were on the beach.

Wee visit to Portobello beach to enjoy the rare sunshine. Would usually eat some fish n chips from one of the food places on the promenade but decided to look at google reviews for best rated and found Golden Bite. Just a short stroll from the promenade to the main street and luckily the Golden Bite wasn’t long open for business.

We only wanted to share a fish supper as a late lunch so that’s what I asked for.

We were treated to some crispy fresh chips while waiting for the fish being cooked to order. Owner was welcoming and chatty and you just knew he was at the top of his game and I wasn’t disappointed when we were served lovely fresh crispy battered fish with golden chips. We’ll be wandering up from the promenade next visit to Portobello.

I recently visited this establishment and ordered a wrap, which I paid for. When I returned shortly after to request a receipt for my business expense, I was told rather rudely to come back the next day. Since I was only visiting as a tourist, this was not an option for me. I was then offered a handwritten note instead, which felt inadequate for the situation.

While I understand that technical issues can happen, I was disappointed by the lack of assistance and the dismissive attitude I encountered. The sandwich itself did not live up to the hype, and the overall experience left much to be desired. A receipt is a basic expectation, and I believe customers deserve better service.
