Drawn in by the big cake selection on a Thur lunch. A tad wary as such a big variety often compromises on quality however a busy place is generally a good sign.
Decided on savories after seeing the menu. -beef meatball gyoza with a selection of salad, slaw or chips came with a big fluffy Greek bread, salad & yogurt & was a generous portion. -hot chicken ceasar wrap & chips. Simple but executed well with quality ingredients. Fries were crunchy & hot.
-Turkish coffee was a Nic taste however an item not worth the money imo. It’s smaller than a cappuccino but contains the grounds so really you only get around 40-50ml of liquid.
-Fresh squeezed ON was very flavoursome. -Turkish Apple tea. Big pot but disappointed it was a teabag so didn’t have the same flavour as ground with apple bits.
It was busy. In general staff coped well but never brought water, cutlery hadn’t been replaced on the table & we had to pay our sit in & take out bill separately.
Hospitable staff, warm decor & cosy feel.
Take out items. -pistachio cannoli. Very light filling, not overly sweet & compared coffee I spy shell. -Dubai choc tray bake. Unfortunately this was very disappointing. The products used s lot m of quality but the ratios are off. A digestive cheesecake style base with a very sweet pistachio cream topped with a very thick layer of dark chocolate ganache (?) & sea salt. The chocolate overpowers everything & is too dominating. Then the digestive & butter flavour & a hit of more sweetness from the cream. Personally it’s too many flavour combinations, too rich & heavy. You get a huge slice but it done us 4 portions. Perhaps a sponge or brownie may even put the flavour profile.
D spite this, we are happy to recommend this place and would happily return to sample more of their...
Read moreFavourite find during the Fringe! I loved this busy bustling cafe in the middle of Morningside. We went in without a reservation about 12:30 and it was packed but the staff were lovely and moved tables around for us. I had the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and the tea and my friend had the Full Scottish Breakfast. Both portions were extremely delicious and very generous, which was a bit of an issue as we had intended on having a cake for dessert. The selection of cakes is incredible and the huge display of cakes, baklava and massive scones is what drew us in from the street. I had a fruit scone the size of my fist, fresh-baked that morning and we picked up baklava to go. Both were absolutely delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful despite how busy they were. We hope to return next time we are...
Read moreBeing a Turk in Edinburgh for a while now, I tried quite a lot of Turkish cafes/restaurants that my friends said were good. Having high standards about Turkish food, this might be the one cafe I didn’t leave disappointed in Edinburgh. The Turkish breakfast reminds me of home, their fresh orange juice is amazing, the prices are reasonable and the staff is so friendly.
It’s unfair to put it in a “Turkish place” category only though — it’s such a nice cafe for coffees and pastries and other lunch food as well. I love the welcoming atmosphere, and I always drool when I walk past it and see the cakes (I’ve been meaning to try one for ages but I’m always so full after a brunch!). Highly...
