After seeing this cafe on a list of foodie places to visit in Edinburgh we HAD to go. It’s a little out the way for us but we didn’t mind the detour. The location is great. Very modern looking. There’s a multi story car park a few minutes walk away which is 1 hour free. I was expecting more sweet treats as from the google images there appeared to have a greater variety but there was still a good enough selection. My wife and I went for a sandwich each which were large and delicious. They are pre-made but still taste very fresh. We also went for a toblerone-like cake (I cannot remember the name of it), a pastry and a croissant. The cake was lovely with a unique texture. The pastry was really nice and the croissant was probably the best I’ve ever had. It was brilliantly layered, crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. Usually I’d prefer a flavoured croissant but this was that nice that I was happy with a plain one. The cafe is on the pricey side but worth the money. The serving plates were high quality (very expensive) and I loved the open plan and how you get to see the bakers do their work in the kitchen. The lady that served us was very friendly and helpful but the gent wasn’t the best. I asked him what type of loafs they were selling. He wasn’t sure but didn’t make an effort to find out and so we were left standing like spare plums. Update Upon revisiting, I've downgraded my rating to 4 stars. While the majority of the food, particularly the pastries and sandwiches, is delightful, our recent experience with the soup was underwhelming. Despite being labeled as sweet potato, it carried an overpowering taste we couldn't identify. Additionally, the hot chocolate my wife ordered appeared appealing but tasted diluted. However, it wasn't all disappointing; my focaccia sandwich was exceptional, boasting flavorful fillings and generous portions. The croissants we ordered were excellent, as was the cheese pastry. Nonetheless, inconsistent service detracted from the experience. While some staff members were welcoming, others were less so. Upon arrival, we were left unsure whether to order at the counter or find a table. Clarity regarding the process and a warmer welcome would greatly enhance the...

Visited on 11/05 for the first time with five friends. We wanted to try a few things between us and I ordered a sandwich, a pain aux raisin, a ham and cheese croissant, and an iced latte. We came quite late in the day so there wasn’t a huge selection but that’s not their fault as understand this is how fresh bakeries are. The sandwich I got was half frozen due to being on the bottom of fridge all day, and the filling was not packed well so it was very messy even when eating it out of the paper. I had to leave it until after our visit so it could warm up. The pain aux raisin was too sweet for me but this is just my preference. It was also a bit dry but again recognise it was later in the day and it had been sat out. The ham and cheese croissant had filling all in one place. I had about 12 bites and only two of them had filling. The coffee was really nice and a decent size. The location is lovely and it’s great sitting outside with friends, but I wasn’t very impressed...

I've had takeaway coffee & Danish here before, and it has been good. However, yesterday afternoon, 8th May was a dreadful experience sitting in. Walking in we were told they had no food apart from some bakewell slices. But just as we were leaving a large cake miraculously appeared on the counter?!?!?!

It was also offensively noisy inside. There were still people in drinking coffee but a member of kitchen staff was hoovering with the loudest hoover ever. But they appeared to be concentrating on the area near where I was sat. It must have been spotless after that!

I would also take task on how they make coffee. I visit a lot of coffee shops and usually there is at least two people at counter. One serving and one making coffee. In Patina there is three. One or two serving and another floating about. Nobody manning a coffee machine but the one floating then appears and starts to make the coffee and it takes an age.

I would recommend if you are in a hurry. Try...

Popped in here on Saturday for the first time and had really been looking forward to visiting. Not the cafes fault but it’s tricky to find if you’re driving! Don’t rely on sat nav. The interior is lovely in the cafe area, bright with big windows. (Which is where we sat despite one staff member trying to direct us to the restaurant). Service was slow despite only ordering two coffees ( I know it can take a while to make a decent coffee but this was pretty excessive) and two cakes. When the coffees and cakes arrived they were handed to us directly in a slightly abrupt manner rather than being sat down on the table, before the waitress rushed off. The food was nice albeit slightly expensive for what it was. We paid and planned to buy another brownie on our way out at the till but the staff were all so distracted we left without it as we couldn’t be bothered waiting any longer. I won’t rush back sadly.

NOW THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL PASTRIES! If you're tired of pastries that haven't risen to the occasion, that haven't ful-filled their greatest potential and don't have those layers of flavour; I suggest you head to Patina. Baked on site, the bakery is visible from your seat in the cafe, and they create THE most delectable pastries I've tried in Edinburgh. The Lemon 🍋 Meringue Cruffin was filled with a beautiful lemon creme pat, whilst the Coffee & Walnut Cake was light and moist and jammed full of walnuts and flavour. Pain au Raison and the Cinnamon Swirl were equally mouth watering with soft light and freshly baked dough. Their coffees are sublime - strong and creamy but served hot too. Hoorah! They're located out at Edinburgh Park. The tram line runs right alongside it but there is plenty of free parking too.
