Poor seating made our meal a bit of a downer.
Went with my partner, we were sat at a table against the wall and next to their open kitchen, it literally felt like we had been sent to the kitchens to eat. During the meal we even had people queueing to pay/wait for seats surrounding us. The seats and table themselves reminded me of something you might have found in a school dinner area of yesteryear. It didn't help that we had to go past all the seating at the front which looked a far more pleasant and comfortable place to eat a meal, if only we hadn't gone as a twosome we might have got better seating.
The staff were good though and I couldn't really fault them for their service (even gave a tip). But had it not been for the fact it was 8pm and we had paid for the City of the Dead tour that was starting at 9pm we would have refused the seats and gone elsewhere.
Also, the stuffed crust is a bit of a let down, we don't frequent Pizza Hut very often but I recall when the crusts were actually "stuffed". In the past 8 months we have been twice to Pizza Hut, once to the one in the Omni Centre which appears to be closed now and once to the Pizza Hut I am currently reviewing. Both times we ordered a stuffed crust and got a hollow crust with a small amount of cheese inside, its not really stuffed when you can see all the way through every single slice... It was more than a year earlier that we last went to Pizza Hut and actually got a Stuffed Crust.
When asked if we needed anything else we asked for some Parmesan cheese to be grated over the Pizza. We were told by the staff that they no longer serve Parmazan as it is "too Italian for Pizza Hut", the staff seemed as bemused as we were.
Next time we fancy having Pizza as a treat I think we will try Pizza Express and see what they...
Read moreDespite having phoned to book, the restaurant had no record of the booking when we arrived. It was just fortunate there was space for us. They were plainly short staffed, having said that service wasnt too slow (i have definitely had far slower in this particular branch) A complaint about pizza hut in general is that they seem to set the temperature of their restaurants for the staff, and not for customer comfort. It's soooooo cold. And on a cold night with folk regularly opening the external door, it is freezing cold.
Dont know if it was due to being short staffed or their usual practice but, after putting our food on the table, staff did not return to see if we were enjoying our meal (normally they always do in pizza hut and it isnt necessary!) On this occasion, i had ordered the new festive pizza. It was tasty enough but i couldnt taste any apple flavour at all, despite it being described as having applesauce as an ingredient. So i did want to ask if it had been forgotten but no one came over. I mentioned it at the end but just got the comment 'it wouldnt surprise me if the kitchen had forgotten it'
This was a pity as i never got to know if i ate the pizza as it should have been (in which case i would not re order even in another branch) or it should have had an apple taste, in which case i think i would give it another try.
The staff were friendly and we all know the strain the hospitality sector is under with staff recruitment so i dont want to be too harsh as they did a fine job, considering. But there were definitely areas for improvement. Just turning the heating up would be a start!
All in all, just an...
Read moreDisappointing experience overall. I visited Pizza Hut this weekend to enjoy the unlimited pizza buffet and I was left with a terrible feeling that this establishment oversold and underdelivered.
The quality of the pizza was flabbergastingly poor. The gap between the normal Pizza Hut pizza and what is on offer at the buffet is very large. The pizza we tried today was greasy and chewy. Not only was the quality of the pizza questionable but the selection was far too limited for a ‘buffet’. They only offered 4 types of pizza during our time there. At some points there was no pizza at all, as the kitchen was struggling to keep up with demand. There also was an option for pasta although I do not recommend this as it was bland and tasteless.
The soft drink menu left a bitter taste in our mouths as although they offered six types of soft drinks, all were diet or non-sugar variants. So much for choice at buffet!
The “Ice Cream Factory” did not feel like a factory but more like an icecream workshop! There was only vanilla flavored ice cream available. However, there was quite a decent selection of toppings.
The staff were friendly enough and all orders were via QR code. I must commend them for their ordering system however as it was uncomplicated and required no application download.
But the most egregious part of this whole experience was the pricing system, at approximately 20£ per person on weekends the quality fell well short of what would be desired at this price point.
Overall, I would recommend travelers avoid this establishment while visiting Edinburgh and opt for the plethora of other options...
