Rude and unprofessional Manager
What a shame of a place and what a ridiculous way of manage a restaurant.
We went for dinner last friday 14th with my wife and service was disappointing. Food was ok but overpriced. And here is my feedback below.
We’ve been asked to leave without letting us finish half bottle of wine, saying that they we’re closing at 11 and everyone must leave.
The “Manager”, who was rude and unprofessional approached us saying… is 11 o clock, you have to leave. Which I asked why, if we still have 2 full glasses of wine, and you haven’t give any previous notice?
He answered, yes!! already gave you the bill and you pay, now you have to leave.
As a General Manager of a big restaurant in Edinburgh I asked him if he was aware of his license and his operating plan? Because you have to give your costumers the last call for last drinks orders and after that, you have 30 minutes for a drink up time with a meal.
He replied in a very cocky and insecure way, our licence is until 10:45pm, you already had 15 minutes, no you have to leave, I’m sorry, you have to leave now.
And he stood in front of us, staring at us and repeating, you have to leave now.
At this point I was laughing, I am not a person who would argue, but yes we felt really mistreated, disrespected, and ruined our evening vibes.
I will never come back and I will never recommend this place for a relaxed, nice, welcoming experience for anyone, careful tourist or local people, you could really invest that money somewhere else.
The worst £90 spent ever for a dinner… tapas….
General feedback below:
Water glasses dirty, smelling chemical from the washing machine.
Waitress wiping crumbs from the table straight to the floor, throwing crumbs all over the place, chairs and on top of us, ridiculous.
Atmosphere, was really nice when the guitarist was playing live, but after he finished at 9:30pm, they changed to pop music from a playlist. I would recommend to play Spanish music, having so many good artists, so I can feel i am transported to Spain when I am there. Disappointing.
Tapas: Were small and overpriced, but they were good, really good morcilla. Iberico pork cheeks, I wouldn’t serve them on top of a pastry tart. Octopus, expensive and bland, needs seasoning. Artichokes were nice. Aubergine was too thin.
Dessert: This was really embarrassing. San Sebastian cheesecake itself was nice and light, but it comes with “Homemade Dulce de Leche”… I am from Argentina and let me tell you, you get better condensed milk from a can than that thing. Urgently needs fixing is a nonsense.
Hopefully the owner could look after this...

We have been coming here as a couple and with family for special occasions and just for a weekly treat for several years now. Service never disappoints. Really personal and they remember orders, drinks and preferences like no other place we've been. The specials change regularly enough to keep the experience fresh and exciting. We love the live music and the Special New Years evenings which are always seamless and ridiculously good fun.
Our favourite recommended dishes to try when you're visiting for the first time....
Morcilla de Burgos - think of a really good canape sized black pudding with quails eggs and caramelused red onions. Stunnin!
Costillas - half rack of baby back ribs baked in the in-house IPA finished off on a char-grill.
Potaje de Garbanzos is like a beautiful mediteranean veggie stew with lovely spices.
Bombones de Valdeon are basically blue cheese croquettes rolled in crushed almonds with a caramelized pear puree thingy. Nom! They also do a meat croquette which is insanely good as well!
Pimientos de Padron - total gamble as some of the peppers are spicy and some are just lovely and warm and fresh. But overall tasty as!
Tonnes of veggie options with an eye now to alk sorts of dietary restrictions. Chefs are always more than happy to work with patrons to accomodate their needs when visiting.
The owners and staff work really hard to make it a place to feel comfortable and even at home. Their Hidden Gem award that they won from a public vote was very well deserved indeed.
Don't think we've ever had a dissappointing experience there. Cannot recommend...

On a dreich Edinburgh Friday evening Tapa was a perfect destination. It was such a tonic, after a crazy week, to enter such a welcoming, relaxed interior. Twinkling with fairy lights and candles the interior was warm, gentle, almost hypnotic. I was hooked. As it was early evening there were only a few tables taken and we got to choose where we'd like to sit. I realise that doesn't happen very often these days. As I've mentioned before I feel some restaurants have a military like style that they don't even try to hide. Tapa had that chilled out feeling which I just soaked up! The menu was really superb with a brilliant range of vegetarian tapas and salads. Once ordered our food came very quickly and was just delicious. We shared 6 dishes, my favourites being Chaqueta de Pimiento (roasted, stuffed romano pepper) and Potaje de Garbanzos (chick pea stew). Oh! and the Tortilla con Espinacas was yummeeee. Pudding of Tarta de Santiago was tasty and cute. Served on a slate with a tiny kilner jar filled with home made fig ice cream. We would have tried a digestif if we hadn't been driving so we have vowed to return soon, via bus or taxi. You know, if you eat a little early there are many bonuses - you get to choose your own table, you get lots of attention and the food comes quick, quick! What's not to like? We left around 8.30pm and the place was packed but I'm sure everyone eating was just as...
