Tucked away in the corner of this well used recreation area is the authenticated birthplace of the ‘modern’ game of golf. It comprises of a (bronze) figure of a player on the tee, along with three plaques giving its historical link to the birth of golf and the introduction of the original 13 rules of play. The links are a common area for walking, dog walking, football and other localised community events. The links were also home to a cricket club but am not sure if cricket is still played there. It is a well established outdoor space and well served by flat footpaths that crisscross the suitably maintained green spaces. Making the area accessible to anyone with mobility challenges. Numerous bus routes and the trams will get visitors there from all directions pointing to Leith and the city centre. A wall around the perimeter of the links should take a seasoned recreational walker approximately 40 / 45 minutes...
Read more3rd June 2023, same as previous reviews. Always a pleasant evening....2nd Jan 2023, as good as before. The neds have spray painted the playground but then once a ned, always a ned. Update of an earlier review, this one on 12th of July 22. Went down by myself in the evening to lie about in the sun. The grass had recently been cut, as usual there was no rubbish, the occasional assortment of local neds were not in evidence. We are very lucky to have it on doorstep. I didn't go so far as the children's play park because my granddaughter no longer uses it so I have no reason to. Very well worth a visit for a sit down and wander around, and I will continue to go over many...
