On Saturday evening four of us came for dinner, three of us had beef burgers of three different styles. All of the beef patties were exceptionally dry, like eating cardboard and with no taste. As it was quite disappointing for a bar/restaurant that specialises in burgers. I explained this as feedback to that waiter and asked for the chef to be shown the beef. No direct reason except over cooking it was given but I suspect that the burgers are bought or stored frozen. We were offered a discount which I refused and explained that the reason for the feedback was to inform the chef of the dry burgers.

The reason I have decided to write this review is because on paying for additional coffees, a different, male waiter, after deciding to ask additional questions about the problem with the food said "Well it didn't stop you from eating it all" This is totally unacceptable and an attitude arrogance that I cannot tolerate. Remember we did not accept a discount, the food was paid for by this point. I wasn't aware that being hungry and paying for something meant that you shouldn't eat it even if it was sub standard. The point of a restaurant that specialises is to get better food than you can cook at home, but this is far from the case here.

You would think that for a burger joint, the one thing they could do is cook burgers properly and of decent quality.

Service was generally disjointed after taking our initial food order, no one checked on us or asked if we were happy with the food. Coffees were brought to the table staggered with three sitting on the counter for quite a wile before being brought over and before our plates and food were cleared. Our main waiter was...

Got in early on New Years Eve (First customers).

Atmosphere: Good lightning, Staff were amazingly accommodating and friendly, service attention was impeccable, also able to see the chefs at work with an open kitchen plan...It's amazing the food they produce in such a small space!

Drinks: Unique cocktail selection (primarily gin/whisky) - a bit on the sweet side so I'd recommend ordering a double shot, great selection of draught beers, coffee was decent as well.

Food: Starters were amazing - freshly made and great flavours, the haggis bon bons were our favourite of the 3 different places that we tried them at. Primarily hotdog, burgers & pizza main menu - again solid flavour combinations, what you want from a pub menu. They were cooked well and fresh. Sweet potato fries were a nice touch. One negative amongst all the food we had was the coleslaw which was a bit too heavy on the mayo which overpowered the flavour.

Overall impression: Highly recommended, would visit again, especially during lunch time. Best dishes: Spiced chicken wings, haggis bon bons,...

I would not recommend this pub for families with children. We decided to visit it based on positive reviews, but our experience was entirely different. Upon entering, we were greeted by a gloomy atmosphere and dark interior, which clearly needs renovation. However, since the kids were tired and hungry, we decided to stay for lunch. The menu was extremely limited, making it difficult to choose, especially when dining with children. We ordered burgers, fries, and apple juice. Unfortunately, the juice was served with ice without asking if we wanted it. The fries were unexpectedly spicy, which is definitely not suitable for kids. The burgers were very average and didn’t justify their high price. I believe the establishment should reconsider its approach to service and menu variety. For example, they could offer kid-friendly dishes with milder flavors, ensure they confirm drink preferences before serving, and pay more attention to the balance between price...

I think I’ll come to Edinburgh again to just eat their delicious old blue beef burger! My sister ordered the ā€œOld Blue Beef Burgerā€ which had delicious rich blue cheese, Cajun candied bacon, caramelised onion jam, lettuce, tomato and burger sauce. It was literally a burst of flavours! I’ve never ever had a burger like that. I ordered there veggie ā€œNacho Average Burger ā€œ which was basically a bean burger with salsa , gauc, sour cream and tortilla chips. It sounds very special but the taste was pretty average . I would recommend to stick with the real meat burgers. They also have a daily special menu for drinks and burgers. I ordered their drink special which was a strawberry and ginger beer mix cocktail and it was absolutely delicious. Customer service and vibe of the pub is also a full on šŸ’Æ!! Highly recommend this place.

Overall I'd say this place was ok. Atmosphere: It's a great atmosphere and decor inside and probably a good bar with a selection of craft beers. Service: I think our waitress couldn't have cared less if we were there or not. Food: The old reekie burger itself was really nice, even if it came with the tomato I asked not to have. The coleslaw was more mayo than cabbage, and I would have eaten the mixed pepper salad if there had been some sort of vinegrette/sauce, which there wasn't. I liked the fries Cajun seasoning, but it was a bit much after a while. Again as said, it was alright food and good for a pint.
