A clean and neat stadium with great views of the pitch from every seat and decent leg room for taller fans. It can lack atmosphere in bog standard league games, especially in the Championship if the opposition are of the park the bus variety, which they often are. But in games against teams with decent away supports and who come to attack our average 10,000 or so can create a cracking atmosphere. As witnessed by the cup games against premier league Aberdeen and Dundee Utd this season .... 2 - 0 and 3 - 0 to Hibs respectively.
The few times the ground has been near full since completion has shown it at its best, the atmosphere can be brilliant. Though most Hibs fans would admit the stadium is a wee bit too big for our usual crowds, which in the last 30 years have at best averaged 14,000 and are usually between 8 and 12,000.
Please ignore comments from Hearts supporters. Their ground is sub standard compared to Easter Road, with a dilapidated main stand and 3 newer stands with poor leg room and a restricted view of the back of the goals from parts of the end stands. The once pristine maroon coloured seats have been faded to a pink colour by the sun over the years, as has the stadiums paintwork. When added to the strange curved nature of the newer stands it has rightly earned its nickname amongst Hibs fans of 'the Pink bus shelter'
The fact that the crumbling main stand has a high content of Asbestos in its construction materials has also earned Tynecastle the moniker ..... 'The Asbestos arena'
Due to the club being forced to cram the stands into a small area it does have an atmosphere created by the enclosed nature of the stadium ... though not by the actual Hearts fans themselves, who are not particularly noted for their vocal support any more than fans of other clubs are. This is probably due to their status as Edinburgh's 'establishment' club, giving them a bigger, but more prawn sandwitchy...
Read moreAll the stars are for the club itself . However as it is not possible to sub divide sections significantly the reason for three stars only is the bigots who permeate. Still in 2024 . Plus the way things are being run into ground of the stone age . As personified by one staff member in particular . Despite being a life long fan and wearing home colours in 2024 not 1984 or 1894 . I was singled out by an auld security goon who , harassed me to show him my ticket despite tickets being electronical . I do believe it was Colourist profiling at it worst if I had lighter skin I would have been left alone to go to the turnstiles like other fans -I reckon . His first hostile approach to me was can I help you !! in an interrogatory manner -for no reason . There was no need for his approach seemed like random profiling of the worst kind . he then went on to use aggressive body language as well as the verbal kind to intimidate me into showing him my ticket and made out he was doing me a favour if he chose not to obstruct me form going about my business , namely going to watch a match I had paid for . Been in out the stadium for years without this. Well we all know the world is getting less and less fair in reality . The founding fathers would probably have been ashamed of this guy as Hibs was formed for certain reasons -I will not readily spend further money at home games as I don’t go for what the old guy displayed. Never mind the slogans and the socials actually get the basics sorted ....
Read moreDecent football ground, easy to access, decent view from the away stand. My seat was broken unfortunately. Perhaps having been slammed down by a digruntled opposition fan, the metal supports holding the plastic seat up were bent, leaving me sliding forward out of it for most of the game which is not ideal. Staff at the pie stand were efficient and friendly, although they usually serve chips, they were unavailable on the day of my visit, plenty of pies and bovril though so can't complain too much. Bags were searched on the way in, security were swift and friendly though. Oddly my friend had to hide his compact umbrella in a bush, apparently a brolly is a dangerous weapon. Wasnt the big pointy type or anything. Anyhoo it was still in the bush after the game so no real complaints there. We walked in and out and there was very little in the way of queues, possibly steming from a lack of visiting fan turnout, not sure how quick exit and entry would be from the main stands. After a poor first half My team beat hibs 1-0, scoring in the 89th minute after a fairly nail-biting second half with good chances from both teams. Only friendly patter from the hibs fans afterwards, capping off a very pleasant visit to...
