Before we came, we were advised that the Scotsman's Lounge was "a bit rough and ready.. rowdy, but in a good way," and I think that sums it up. We were in early doors (8-ish?) on a Saturday, and it was rammed. Getting to the bar was tricky, but like Moses parting the waters, space was made. Everyone accommodated the newcomers. Service was good. The ceiling is covered with signed/annotated banknotes from around the world (though mostly, as would be expected, the US of A) (so, too, with the police badges pinned behind the bar). Live music (a guy with a guitar who performed some great Americana!) when we were there, but I suspect a DJ is normally in the hot seat. People (hen-dos?!) dancing, or trying to: there isn't really any space. It's not necessarily for the faint-hearted, but we had great fun. And there was the constant feeling that any moment a pint glass was going to come flying through the air. Rowdy, but in a good way.

The Scotsman Lounge is one of several pubs on Cockburn St and is worth a visit. Decor is traditional one a small are is given over for live musicians - there were two in the short time I was there. There also several tables outside for when the sun shines. Good selection of cask conditioned ales and spirits. Can't comment on food as was in for a couple of beers before a curry! 😀 Service is nice and friendly.

Hey, if you want friendly Edinburgh locals, a pint, and good live music, this is your place. It's small and intimate with a nice blend of serious local drinkers, and tourists looking for an authentic pub scene. The location is nicely adjacent to the Royal Mile. Friendly staff, and on this occasion I struck up a fun conversation with a bagpiper getting ready for his gig. How Scottish is that?

I went to Edinburgh on my stag last weekend, me, my brother and cousin, were looking for a quiet pub to have a pint in and a chat, as we were talking about where to go that is quiet we passed this place, as we walked up to the door the bouncer opened the door for us, and the music inside was pretty loud, we felt we wouldn't be able to hear ourselves talk, as a joke, my cousin said "Can you tell them to turn the music down in there mate?", to which the bouncer said no, we obviously already knew he was going to say no, and had no intention of going in as it was loud, so we turned around and walked off to find somewhere else to drink.

This was early into the night, at this point we had only been to two other pubs and hadn't really had enough to be drunk yet.

As we were walking away the bouncer had taken a photo of us and shared with all the door staff who worked in the same company as him, apparently they have a Facebook or WhatsApp group.

When we got to the next place we wanted to go in, we weren't allowed access, but not told why, simply "not to tonight lads".

The bouncer at next place we tried told us we had been banned for being drunk and disorderly earlier in the night and told us our picture had been circulated around all door staff who worked for his company. We were told by other bouncers and bar staff that this is a common occurrence for a particular bouncer company and they are prejudice towards people they don't like the look of, particularly English people on nights out.

This basically torpedoed our night, and no where would let us in, because of a joke made to a bouncer early in the night, it ruined my stag weekend, and my enjoyment of Edinburgh as a whole.

Also, as far as I am aware it is illegal to take a photo of someone with intent to share it without their consent, which we obviously didn't give, as it is a breach of data protection and privacy rights. With this in mind the door staff employed by this establishment have an illegal Facebook or WhatsApp group in which they share photos of patrons they don't like the look of.

We have emailed and tried to contact the Scotsman's Lounge, and have so far had no response, which is why I am leaving this...

AVOID!

Had a friend come visit for the weekend and 3 of us decided to pop into this pub, we bought 3 drinks £11 each and decided to try find a seat, we pulled over a chair for my friend and a couple of minutes later a women comes over and says very rudely to give her the seat back while pushing my friend off the seat, we gave her it back and apologised and thought nothing of it. The seat was then unattended again so my other friend took the seat unaware someone was sitting there, The same women came back over 10 minutes later and Is this time shouting and calling us insults demanding the chair, for the way she spoke to us we just ignored her and continued our conversation, she then comes and snatches my drink out of my hand with most of the drink spilling on me, she then came back to our table and took all our drinks we had bought. My friend then went and complained to the bar staff and we were told they couldn’t do anything about it as she was a manager off the bar, we were then told to leave the bar and they wouldn’t be selling us anymore drinks. They refused to refund our £33 for our drinks that we didn’t even get to drink. We wouldn’t have took the chair if it wasn’t unattended or had someone’s property etc on it. This wasn’t acceptable by the off duty...

Been here b4, a good few times, and everything was great, the entertainment, the staff etc.. Tonight though, unfortunately, the small barwoman/possibly manager(?!) was exceptionally rude and ignorant. After only 1or2 drinks, she told me (in front of EVERYONE and ANYONE who cared 2listen) that I wasn't allowed 2buy anymore as the person with me had been smoking his medical cannabis - 2shop doorways away from the place..?! and, apparently didnt move away far enough when asked. 1 - that was not even true as he was NEVER even spoken to when he WAS outside..whether smoking or not! 2 - what has this got 2do with ME bein allowed 2buy a drink or not..?! Completely unfair, un-manager-like, unprofessional and 2b quite honest, she had a nippy look about her from the minute I saw her - like this is the way she usually is, unfriendly and ignorant. So, we definitely won't be back again, they are not the cheapest place to go anyway and there are PLENTY other places that ARE cheaper and have a much better atmosphere and have much...
