It was like being served by Basil Fawlty!! There was only 2 people in front of me but waited ages. The woman serving walked away half way through serving the customer in front of me to clean up a spill, but she didn't say anything, just walked away, and no apology when she returned, bearing in mind there was a queue. Some people actually left the queue as they were sick of waiting. The server then said very rudely that anyone ordering hot food had to do so on the screen, despite having already served people for hot food, she said even the lady behind me, who by this point had been queuing with me for over 10 mins had to leave the queue and order at the screen (she didn't leave the queue as that wouldn't have been fair on her). When I finally got to order it was as though I was troubling her by ordering. I asked for hot food (yes I wasn't leaving the queue either) and a sandwich, to which she asked if it was a large or small sandwich; as the sandwiches on display were all the same size I asked what the difference was and this just seemed to annoy her. I asked for a plate for the sandwich to be informed there were no plates just napkins(bearing in mind this says its a restaurant). So ordering done I sat down to wait for our number to be called so I could collect the food. Once called our hot food was served to us in a paper bag in cardboard cartons (restaurant quality 'eh?!). The chips were tepid at best and the "special" hot roast pork sandwich was 'meh. And talk about expensive.... It cost me the best part of £20 for a ham sandwich, crisps, chips, pork sandwich and 3 drinks. Calling this place a restaurant is really stretching it, expensive greasy spoon would be a better choice of words. The thing is, the zoo is great but this place is an embarrassment to it. They need to drop the prices if they can't even serve food on plates and employ someone who's more cheerful and...

Edit: the staff are friendly though. And helpful, added a star for them.

Really dodgy little place. They only seem to have one single menu which is stuck to the window outside which is utterly incomprehensible and just smacks of an abysmal lack of foresight. Further they force you to use one of two Macdonald's style ordering screens only one of which actually works which shows a terrible lack of management. The most irritating part however is that the menus do not include prices or descriptions of the food (eg "beef burger") which is probably a deliberate attempt to mislead customers and is likely very close to a breach of trading standards. I have helpfully uploaded the full menu to the photos page of the zoo to bypass their attempts to mislead customers. They also have about three staff working which is wholly inadequate and very little if any(?) Allergy information which is likely a violation of food safety standards. Oh. And the bins are...

The most dirtiest restaurant ever. We were absolutely disgusted with just how dirty it was! There was food all over the floor along with dried sauce. The tables were filthy, covered in spilt sauces and drinks. The seats were covered in mud and foul where someone had clearly let their child walk all over the seats with muddy feet. My partner was unfortunate to put his hand in the foul that was on one of the seat. Felt like we all needed full body sanitising after being there!! Luckily we only stayed for a coffee, we absolutely could not have eaten there after seeing how dirty it was and will never be back. Such a disappointment as we've just become members of Welsh Mountain Zoo. We'll be bringing our own food/drinks next time to avoid this place.

The only positive to our visit was the lovely lady taking orders. She was very helpful...

Better off just bringing a pack lunch because that's what the food quality basically is, they messed up and didn't make my order and had to wait an extra 20mins after originally ordering and the staff didn't care. Very impersonal and for the price you'd atleast expect some better, friendly and all around politer staff. Not even an apology after an issue on there end, when you're paying the prices they should atleats treat everyone the same and not have such a bad sense of customer service. Also they said there was a system error but knew exactly what was missing.

We visited the safari restaurant today for lunch during our trip to the Welsh mountain zoo. They have self serve screens very similar to McDonalds for you to order and pay for hot food, which then is brought out to you once ready. Overall the quality of the food was pretty good, whilst on the pricey side but that's to be expected in such places. I had the Southern fried chicken burger which was really good, my partner had Curry and chips which she enjoyed and my son had the child's chicken nuggets and chips.

There were 2 screens for self-ordering. One wasn't working showing no connection, to the other one there was a queue, as it wasn't working right either. I went to the regular till. Coffee and Safari hot chocolate were great. The burger was also great, but my hubby had homemade pulled pork loaded fries, and the pulled pork was really nice but the fries were disgusting as we could tell, they were fried in old oil.
