The Spice Room — Restaurant in Cotswold District

We have used The Spice Room for many years, we also have 2 holiday cottages that we rent out where we recommend them as our Indian delivery/takeaway of choice. Sadly tonight’s meal was awful, not the same meal we normally have at all. We ordered a Rogan Josh and it was like a tin of chopped tomatoes with some tikka meat thrown in. No Indian flavour at all just chopped tomatoes and chicken. I called them as I wanted to let them know as I am sure this must have just been a mistake to be told in a very arrogant way that I “must have picked the wrong dish as this dish is tomato based” all I wanted was acknowledging and that they would pass on the feedback to the chef as I’m sure he must have just forgot to add any Indian spice/flavouring. This is the first negative review I've ever posted but it is warranted. What a terrible restaurant!!! I can't comment on the food because we didn't receive any!!

I made a point of visiting the restaurant tea time to book a table for 2 people at 10pm as it was a Saturday night and my husband's birthday - the reservation was confirmed.

We arrived at 10.10pm to find the door locked and we're told they would not serve us as we were late and they had closed!! They pointed out their closing time on the window as 10pm......if the closing time was 10pm why were we told a 10pm booking was OK??

I appreciate we were late but all decent restaurants have a grace period of at least 15 minutes. I suspect it had been a quiet service so they decided not to honour the booking.

If you want to incinerate your taste palate and have a side dish of awful customer service, congratulations, you've found your venue!

APPALLING customer service. When we made the staff aware that the food (from the mild section of the menu) was completely inedible due to the spice level, they didn't believe us. They proceeded to put us on trial and ask other people in the restaurant, customers/delivery drivers, to taste the food to see if we were lying... Yes I'm not joking, this did actually happen.

The presumed manager only refunded us for one dish (we complained about 4 of the 9 main course dishes we ordered) which was very disappointing. Meanwhile the chief food taster/delivery driver verbally abused us and ushered us out of the restaurant.
