We have been coming to this establishment regularly over the years. It used to be a lovely little pub, and the refurb last year went a long way to giving the place a new lease of life. The menu is exciting with lots of options, but I am appalled by the staff.

It really is disappointing when you see other staff members trying to make up for the shortcomings of their colleagues, desperately doing all they can and clearly being embarrassed by the behaviour of those on shift with them.

We have been greeted many times by a lovely young girl who has been nothing short of amazing, but this was soured on our more recent visits when a member of staff who we hadn't seen before was openly rude and borderline insulting to our experience as customers.

We were greeted - for lack of a better word because it was hardly a greeting - at the bar by Owen. He was straight to the point, jumpy and snappy. When he wasn't loudly cursing - despite there being many families in this pub quite often - he was telling everybody how he wasn't going to be "up to scratch" because he was hungover and "had not yet been to sleep". Like it was something to be proud of. I understand that a Sunday shift isn't fun for everybody, but as a father of two young children, I personally do not appreciate hearing this language from staff while trying to enjoy a nice meal with my family. I am no prude, but I do not care to hear about how he spends his Saturday, and when he has a clear lack of an inside voice, it is almost impossible to avoid. We had ordered starters with the view to ordering mains but I was so dismayed by the language, of which it was plentiful and abhorrent, that we swiftly left. He was swearing so much it was impossible to avoid, and the way he spoke about customers while other customers were around was frankly disturbing.

It's a real shame, because I used to love to bringing my family here. We live locally and considered this place a lovely, family-friendly pub but I strongly doubt we will be returning sheerly due to this one particular member of staff.

A real shame, but please do not consider taking your family here if you care about the language your children...

Absolutely ridiculous policy rules. No 0 star option so had to use the one star. I went in for breakfast with my 4 year old daughter wearing a cap due to chemotherapy I am undergoing and the waitress refused to serve us unless I took off my cap apparently for the cameras, that sounded alarm bells to me straight away, I did not want to tell her that I am undergoing therapy as it’s none of anybody's business. if they want to monitor everyone that goes into their pub that means their worried about something??. So me and my little girl left to take our money somewhere where is more reasonable with their customers. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone even if it was free. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Avoid at all costs. Especially if your want to wear a cap/hat for whatever reason.

P.s I was not shouting at the girl serving she is not responsible for your behaviour as a pub. I was just pointing out the stupidity of your policy and management. Sometimes you should consider people’s situations and understand that you cannot put forward to paying customers what they can and cannot wear. Refusing to serve someone because of his appearance is the equivalent of closing the doors yourselves. If a transgender came in would you refuse to serve him/her? I strongly doubt it. But if a father with cancer comes in with his child comes in you refuse because he’s wearing a hat to hide his head from his child. Are you for real??? Find a new manager mate. You will find your place going down the road very quickly just...

Went for meal on a Friday evening. Booked for 8.15 but could have booked later. On arrival drinks order taken and advised to choose food quickly as kitchen about to close. One order was for chicken tikka platter, however when it came it a chicken platter. We explained and the server took it away, however it was promptly brought back and we were told in no uncertain terms that that was what was ordered. (As it was all rushed our order hadn't been repeated back to us to check). We were told twice this is what was said albeit we all heard otherwise. We are reasonable people and understand these things can happen and if there had been some sort of discussion about a misunderstanding between us all but the kitchen was now closed if we were happy to have that meal could they offer a free drink, or take off the difference between the two meals, but no we were made to feel like we were wrong and she was right and the meal placed back on the table before shevwalked off. My fajitas weren't great, had some chunks of red onion on which weren't really cooked. I'd rather they had said they weren't available if they didn't have all the correct ingredients and I would have happily chosen something else but feel this was all.part of the kitchen closing rush. Feel sad as this has been our local for 30 plus years and I have always said how good it is but felt like we weren't treated in a very nice manner unfortunately. To add to the response we went on Friday...

I have had to give one star as there is no option for ZERO .....Absolutely terrible service with no smile, and that's from the manager. Ordered the black and blue steak.... when asked how I would like it to be cooked I ordered medium rare. WHY ASK CUSTOMERS ITS NOT WHAT YOU PROVIDE? It was almost burnt!! It arrived looking an ABSOLUTE state look at the picture. Mentioned the garlic bread we ordered was badly burnt, the girl was less than impressed the fact we pointed this out, she took the bread back to the kitchen then promptly returned saying that its how its supposed to be.... but will do more if you really want.....we proceed to then say about the steak. Not that I would have wanted another one from here but was told as I had eaten it they offered a free pudding!!! Ermmm no thanks AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Food used to be good here but now, not so great. I complained that the ribs were not too good as they had less meat than a vegan nugget. In fact there was actually no meat on the rib, plenty of bone and fat but genuinely no meat. The bloke behind the bar said he'd have a word with the kitchen staff but they may not replace it which I found quite shocking since I paid for ribs and not fat. In fairness, they did replace it BUT the other one also had no meat on it. It's not likely we'll eat here again but I will say the staff are great, food isn't.
