We went back to the Highwayman on Saturday afternoon having been there before a few months ago, it was my brother in law’s birthday celebration. The food was fairly decent and the service was also fair. We had two gluten intolerant children with us and things were very confusing with that and made the children really uncomfortable as the staff genuinely didn't understand the severity of them consuming gluten, that side of things was very lacklustre. When it came to the bill, having already paid a fairly large deposit we were quite horrified to get a bill of circa £600, once we went through the bill we noticed we had been overcharged £213 for 6 bottles of Prosecco we hadn't had, very strange and quite alarming. When we questioned the bill and the bottles of Prosecco there was absolutely no apology and it was all treated like a big joke , I forgot to mention the first time we came here they overcharged us to the tune of £150 but liked the place and wanted to give it a second go. Very disappointing and extremely annoying as we were meeting friends for drinks and messing around with the bill made us so late and our friends left. We decided today because of the attitude of the staff and the bad experience we wouldn't go back to the Highwayman. Extremely expensive for what it is and overcharging a table of 11 twice is very sloppy and unprofessional...

We have not got much due to lockdown but as Captain Tom said, tomorrow will be a good day. Today was tomorrow. A relaxed day browsing the shops in Berko led to our stomachs getting a bit noisy mid afternoon. Having eaten at The Highwayman a long time back we decided to give it a go. Upon entering we were asked to scan in for Track and Trace which was as always simple and then asked for a table outside. Polite waitress led us to a table in the courtyard and said she would let a waiter know we were seated outside. About two minutes later a very polite guy, David, appeared and offered us water and a menu. About five minutes later he came back to take our order. When asked about certain items on the, he showed knowledge of both the ingredients and also the taste. We ordered and five minutes later all our food arrived with our drinks. Everything was very tasty and showed that the person preparing the food had actually tasted and adjusted the seasoning which makes a change to the bland "don't offend anyone with too much of this or that." David showed the perfect amount of attentiveness and was a pleasure to talk to. Overall, a very pleasant experience which I would...

Good atmosphere, reasonable prices, great food and attentive service. They are especially attentive to dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan or allergies. Update; Our 3rd visit and nothing's changed, if anything even better, particularly as they made an extra special effort for my elderly mother's birthday and brought out the cake, that my sister-in-law had provided, luckily with only 4 candles rather than 86! Really loved the Moroccan mezze starter, a great dish for sharing and mum had the cheese souffle starter for her main, which, I think, was the main reason that she'd asked if we could come back. However, if anything I'd have liked at least one new option on the menu, as far as I could see the offerings were identical to those from our last visit back in December, perhaps a dish of the day? My only real criticism is that we rather suffered from the bright winter sun glaring through the front window and a lack of any kind of curtain or blind! When finally I resorted to sellotaping menus to the window I discovered the remains of previous sellotapings, so clearly it's an issue that needs to...

Been a few times now. It's a very nice venue with friendly bar staff with a really good vibe as well. A quite well known actor even dropped in whilst we were there too! We did sample some of the bar snacks but were a little disappointed, as though very tasty, you didn't get many sweet potato fries but the pork scratchings were very greasy and salty. That hasn't put me off coming again though. Visited again 5th March for a birthday meal. Overall we were pretty good looking after us. I had the sticky beef and rice which was OK. It was a bit plain, thought it might be bit spicier. I would have liked more vegetables but I just got a very large carrot instead! 🥕 For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding which wasn't overly sweet and quite light which you don't really expect with this dessert. My friend had the pistachio souffle with ice-cream but she said it was a bit dry and needed more ice-cream. It was quite expensive, the bill came to over £240 for 4 people but they may have been my fault as I had quite a mojitos 🍹🍹🍹 Oops!

I'm sad to reveal my latest visit, (lunch), leads me to the conclusion this restaurant is on a gentle decline. Whilst things weren't all bad, the food quality, from my perspective, was certainly not outstanding and the service, whilst polite, was meek and lacking any real personality. Highlight dishes were cheese soufflé (which was really rather delicious), and rhubarb trifle (which sounds unusual, is unusual, and was amazing). The online menu, gives away more information than the cardboard one at the dining table, in that a few select options have accompanying colour photographs to temp you. I wish I hadn't looked at this before my visit, because I set my heart on one of these selected meals, the sausage curled up on a bed of "bubble and squeak" all sitting in a wash of mustard grain sauce. The photograph is a hard sell which won me over. Reality can be a harsh comedown. Total meal well overpriced in my opinion. Won't rush back.
