Really disappointed with my experience. Looks like they run out of food so went to the local shop to get some but still charged high prices. The “steak” burger wasn’t steak, it was a supermarket beef burger which was quite chunky but had a bit of a weird taste to it. The burger was supposed to have bacon on it but they had run out earlier that day and didn’t let us know when we ordered. The “burger buns” looked like Sheldon’s Oven Bottom Muffins which were too big for the burger. One of the burgers had to be sent back because it was still pink in the middle and when the new burger come it was still a little bit pink but edible, for £17 they really wasn’t worth it. A few people had the fish and chips and it seemed as though they had been bought from the supermarket freezer section and cooked in the oven. Definitely wasn’t home made fish which is what you would expect for £17 a meal. There wasn’t many prawns and tomatoes in the linguine, quite a small portion for the price of it. The only thing that the group throughly enjoyed were the chips as they were as described in the menu. Overall, we wouldn’t go back again and not worth the...
Read moreNot a lot to report. It's a traditional English pub situated in the lovely town of Ashbourne. Beautiful sunny Sunday when we visited, and fortunately we manged to get one of the limited number of tables outside to enjoy it for half an hour. It's one of a handful clustered around the market area, which was in full flow, and on a day when England were playing one of their World Cup matches, it was also one of the quieter. Couldn't fault the pint of a local brew that I tried or the service, as the young lady who served me with my pint and my partner's diet coke, came out to apologise that she thought she'd served the 'full fat' version, and changed it to be sure. The food seemed popular, as most of the people seated around us were tucking into a...
Read moreThis place was actually recommend by another similar establishment in Ashbourne. "They do fantastic food and you can take your dog" he said. We thought it rude not to take his advice. It was very busy but we managed to get a table in the bar next to the fire. Friendly staff with a good choice of ales was a great start. It was Sunday lunchtime so it was an easy choice from the menu. It would have been 5* except we don't like our beef rare, this is a matter of choice and some may be prefer it that way. Everything else was excellent, the Yorkshire puddings in particular were surprisingly tasty. Plenty of greens and a jug of gravy that you often have to ask for made for a very pleasant visit. They dog like it too. The bill was also cheaper than I...
