Maple Tree — Restaurant in Doncaster

Received vouchers through post so made on line booking for 8pm on 9th June to use one of the vouchers,, table 15 was reserved for us so no problems. wanted sirloin steak but they had run out so ordered surf and turf instead. Meal fab, rump steak cooked to order (medium rare pink in middle) serving staff pleasant..meal came within 10mins.. So based on that experience we decided to use the 2nd voucher on Friday 23rd. Again booked on line for 7.30pm. When we let the bar staff know we had booked on line she was very vacant and didn't know which table we were booked on. So she said either table 19 or 20 which meant she had no idea of what table was booked for us. We ordered surf and turf again. And 2 pints of lager. Paid straight away and she'd forgotten to pour out the lagers!!! We had to let her know!!!! . Went to sit down and both tables were taken therefore we sat at table 17. We waited 20mins and no service so my husband went to find out where out meals were. Also people were getting served that had arrived after us. Meal came and the steak was not as we had ordered.. my husbands was cooked medium rare and just OK but mine was over cooked and not medium rare it was only medium rare in middle but hard on the ends in other words cooked too much looked like the scrag end of a piece of rump that the chef just wanted to use up.. .the onion rings were rubbish. Too hard. I ate my meal because we had waited long enough. Obviously the serving staff don't know how a medium rare steak should be cooked as she said "sorry for your wait but sometimes the steak needs a little longer!!!!" so based on that experience we will Not...

The service was very good the waitress was very kind and helpful. We went and had lunch today at 12 and there were some lads at the bar as we entered. That's not a problem. Until they became unruly shouting and swearing. From the first moment we entered we were put off by the loud swearing This isn't what you expect from a seemingly family friendly pub/restaurant. Not good at all and a real let down. I don't really know what can be done about this to be honest and I feel abit bad writing this review but I think being honest feed bad is needed.

As we were taking a walk home my wife and I bumped into a couple we know and so we said where we had been. Their response was something like this " you get some wrong ens in there now, it's gone right down hill" .....whether this is true or not I can't say whether they are right ens or wrong ens isn't up to me to decide ...but they were foul mouthed using bad language. Big turn off and for that reason I'll think twice about going in next time. You want to sit down and have a nice meal.

Burger was decent my wife enjoyed the curry. Really great cracking service fantastic employees made us aware of all the specials and even mentioned all the different lagers they have nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed the cheese cake sandwich desert it was also nice.

This would have been 4 stars but sadly the atmosphere was awkward Saturday night 22.00 maybe this is acceptable for some but 12pm Saturday...

Visited The Maple Tree, Doncaster, on 13 August 2025 with my family. We are regular customers, but this experience was unacceptable.

Our 6-year-old daughter has a dairy allergy, so we always make staff aware when ordering. On this visit, the manager, Jo, referred my husband to the Marston’s website for allergy info (despite no internet in the pub), gave him a gluten-free menu (not relevant), and stated there was no allergy folder. In the past, staff have gone out of their way to help us by checking options manually, so we know it can be done.

Worse still, while I was waiting to order, I overheard Jo joking to other customers about my husband’s request, by mocking him saying “You don’t have a dairy allergy, do you?” followed by an eye roll and laughter. When I challenged her, she admitted it was inappropriate but simply offered us a free drink, which I refused. We left without eating and will not return.

I have raised this complaint formally with Marston’s but have received no response. Allergies are a serious matter and should never be mocked — especially by a manager responsible for...
