The Royal Oak — Restaurant in Doncaster

So we booked this place as we thought it would be nice. However, the food was good, the service from bar staff was shocking to say the least. To be accused that we turned up late is not acceptable, (booking written down for 12 instead of 14:00) mistakes happen. However, the young girl wasn’t that apologetic if anything she continued to accuse my mother of her error, when she repeated in the telephone booking the table was for 14:00 twice to the member of staff,. Then subjected to several dogs constantly barking thoroughout our meal whilst owners were on there phones does not bode well either, being turfed out onto the terrace because of the in house errors in your booking also not acceptable. To be spoken to in an unacceptable manner by a small female with masses of attitude doesn’t bode well. YOU ruined my birthday meal. They have their favourite customers and despite myself being stranger I will not attend again - dreadful service and appalling noise pollution issues. FOR THE REORD Where is your evidence I shouted or waved my finger! Funny that the young couple on the next time said how polite and calm I was too! I never said the owner was on the phone. The dog owners were thou! Please read what I wrote! Your bar staff member virtually accused my mother of lying about the booking, do you know how that made her feel! You made a mistake just own your mistakes and apologise properly. I would have revised my review had you responded politely. Shame because the chef is a really nice person and good at...

I asked for three normal cokes and one diet, the bar man clearly misheard but I explained my sister in law was pregnant so I needed to differentiate the diet from the normal with a straw in the diet. I held my fingers up 3 and 1.

He poured them wrong and I explained I said “im so sorry but that’s the wrong way around”. He told me he wasn’t pouring them again and slammed the straw down. He said I would have to pay for them. He then said I was wrong and I said I was sure what I said because of my sister in law and he became so rude and angry I told him we would be leaving. It escalated so quickly. Do not come here if you want human treatment. He was bald, and angry because he was “the only one on shift” so clearly in a bad mood and felt it was ok to speak to me rudely. He had been sharp to my partner who asked if dogs were ok to come in previously so we sat outside because the atmosphere was horrendous. (We had the intention of ordering food)

UPDATE: we went to a nearby DIFFERENT pub and my sister in law ordered the drinks, 3 normal one diet. The bar man at that pub also got it the wrong way. We told him and he laughed and replaced the drinks.

Thought we would give this place a go as recently moved to nearby Conisbrough. Started off very well being shown to our table on arrival and our drinks order taken at same time. When drinks arrived we were asked whether we had decided our mains, which we had, so order placed with the lady serving. The mains arrived very quickly and the food was absolutely lovely, could not fault it. Our table was cleared quickly after our mains and then it went downhill.

This is the second time in a short space of time at two different eateries where we have waited and waited to be offered a dessert menu. The lady that cleared our mains should perhaps have offered a dessert menu, but did not, straightaway this puts us on warning that we will not get a dessert for a second time.

After some time it did appear we had been forgotten so decided to just pay for what we had and left.

Why is it that so many establishments fall down on desserts, I could easily name three places where we have left before getting a dessert menu.

Big shame!

We have since dined here again and everything was spot on. The food was as good as ever, and we had a dessert.🤣 Service really quick and warrants 5 stars on this...
