My son in law took out for Sunday lunch . We booked a table but there was plenty of empty tables. I eaten here before the new owner took over and always had a good meal . We wanted the carvery so paid and went to get our lunch. To say I was completely disappointed is an understatement. I asked for beef and turkey and was served the thinnest sliver of each, about the same as our 4yr old grand child would eat. I didnt have gammon as it was only a small amount of very fatty meat left. I was offered one of the4 Yorkshire puddings left but refused as they were lying at the front where people's arms ect would have dragged over them he then offered me the one by the meat. The veg were all frozen except the powdered mashed potatoes. A new pot of roast potatoes had been added but they were frozen and very over cooked almost to the burnt stage. The Yorkshire resembled Frisbees, flat round objects that wernt so much crispy as crunchy. I tried to cut mine but it was virtually impossible. Many of the vegetables were starting to burn on the bottom of the pans . I normally come away from a carvery feeling very full and satisfied but it all looked so unappetising I wouldn't waste any more money on a pudding and left still feeling hungry. Our table had been booked for 2 we arrived promptly and got our meal quickly . They do not finish serving till 3 so I would expect there to still be half decent food left. We only had 1 drink as the place had emptied of the few customers that had been there and we felt uncomfortable and decided to leave . The service was not brilliant girl at the till looked like she couldn't be bothered , pointed out our table saying its the one with the cutlery on, only 3 pieces set. I wanted salt non on the table I looked around couldn't see any near us so went to were the sauces were, only 1 empty one, asked another young person and said I couldn't see any on tables near us she looked and said there's some indicating a table on the upper level so I went and got that. The young man clearing the table was pleasant and smiled . I used to eat here quite a bit but illness meant we haven't been for a meal.in a while and won't go here again . The amount of meat and quality of the vegetables was poor. No Cranberry or apple sauce to go with the meat and very little gravy left in the pot to share between 4. Shame as previously I've had good meals and pleasant service when visiting for...
Read moreI was greeted by Wendy and Mike with the upmost welcome as always, they came out their way to talk to me and ask me about my day as they always do, giving a welcome feel. I came here tonight for a few hours during a pool match, lovely atmosphere and a great crowd to be around, so much better now, they've really turned the pub around since Matt had it. It's disgusting that you are not offering them both the lease to this pub when they are doing such an amazing job. They have an absolutely amazing relationship with the customers that come in here, particularly the locals which are the people that keep your pubs alive. I really do hope you think about these two taking on the pub properly, they are both amazing people and put on good entertainment which is a bonus for me and many many others around here, although your a Marston's and do food, I have lived around here for many years and have never seen this pub as a place to go for a bite to eat, it's always about the people, entertainment and the atmosphere which in my opinion is the best it's been in a very long time. Both Wendy and Mike have an absolute heart of gold, they actually care about the pub and the people that come in it, one of the best landlords and landladys this pub has had. You'd be...
Read moreVisited a few times but not enjoyed any of the occasions if I am honest.
Its a very good location on the corner at the junction of two main roads making it easy to get to The off street parking is fantastic, and stretches on both sides of the pub. There is no requirement to enter car registrations either so no worrying about forgetting and getting a fine in the post.
The bar side is great for gaming with a free pool table and darts. Its is ideal for a get together with friends to have some fun.
The food side is really large so can easily accommodate a big gathering.
I found the lighting poor thoug and think the pub could do with a brighter paint job and better overall lighting to really open the place up.
The staff seem nice but really they have a staffing shortage and really need to address this. Can be impossible to get served without a long wait and I can see they just don't have the people behind the bar to service customers without trying to juggle other jobs. This mulitasking with few staff is poor and really reflects in my review, but it is heartfelt and honest and if something were done in this area it could potentially transform the place.
I personally wont be returning but I hope it takes steps to lift itself up to...
