Visited on Saturday with my friend who is veggie and myself who has a broad range of allergies. The team were brilliant at responding to queries on Instagram and confirmed they would be able to do an afternoon tea for me which was so exciting! On arrival all staff were so friendly and welcoming making sure our dog had a water bowl and space to sit and also accommodating our request to sit outside until we were dive bombed by wasps and had to move back inside! Food was delicious!! Really generous portions and couldn’t quite believe it was all allergy friendly for myself! Took some of the cakes home in a takeaway box as I couldn’t finish it all and enjoyed them over the next few days. The raspberry and pomegranate lemonade was gorgeous as well perfect for the warm weather ☀️ The scones were also fresh and warm which made them even more delicious! Incredible price point for such a wonderful experience as well - will 100% be recommending to anyone who visits Ely and coming back myself hopefully in the future! 💗

I arranged afternoon tea for my sister in Law’s Baby shower I booked a table for 8 we were early it was cold outside so we wanted to see if we could come then. But I felt we were rudely turned away. When we came back we were greeted by staff we just sat down. Then eventually someone came over to offer us the menu for teas. We were told we could order coffee or some other drink if we wanted to. Then they left us to choose after ordering some of the teas got mixed up and wasn’t told which one was which. It was very Nosey atmosphere! The price of the afternoon tea was reasonable you got 3 sandwich fingers a scone a 3 cakes each and were able to take anything away we didn’t consume. The gluten free Scones were so tasty probably the best I’ve tasted so far. Everything was fantastic we all had a good time. Remember to book as it was very busy on a Saturday at least and also make them Aware of your Dietary Requirements.

I ordered the simple chocolate celebration cake for a birthday and it was SO delicious! It went down a treat with everyone. It also wasn’t too sweet which was perfect. It’s also very well priced at £35. I’ve given 4 stars for the service as there was some miscommunication as raspberries were missing and ‘happy birthday’ wasn’t written on the cake as requested. But mistakes happen and Sophie is very friendly and accommodated my late arrival. I would recommend and would return if I’m ever in Ely again.

Ok so I need to be honest and give my mixed review. And the reason for my stars

Firstly my friend had booked Sophie’s for my late birthday and wanted an afternoon tea.

We made Sophie aware via email of our allergies and they were confirmed that it would be no problem.

We arrived early and was seated early Sophie and her staff were very kind you can choose from any drink which you don’t get in other places.

I had a cherry hot chocolate it was very nice.

The afternoon tea. Consisted of 3 finger sandwiches which were very tasty.

But the scones is where it went downhill. Sophie was aware I’m allergic to oranges and sadly upon biting into my scone and having the first bite I could immediately taste the orange and had to run to be sick in the toilet! And my basic reaction of runny nose, cough and itching and sweating. I knew I had eaten hidden orange. Not ideal.

My friend found the orange peel in the scone and alerted Sophie.

I will say that Sophie was genuinely concerned and showed a genuine reaction I do not by any means feel that Sophie made this mistake on purpose but it was an oversight.

Sadly we could not finish our afternoon tea I tried eating a plane scone but with the stomach pain kicking in it just wasn’t for me anymore.

Sophie was kind enough to not charge us.

Luckily my allergic reaction isn’t deadly but other people are not so lucky. I now have to cancel my weekend because I won’t be well enough and my day for my birthday was cut very short.

I will give 2 stars for staff being kind and genuinely concerned the sandwich’s were good drink too but sadly the allergy oversight...
