We drove into Budleigh Salterton today for the first time ever and spotted this dear little cafe on our way down the street, looking for a parking space. There were many people sitting outside in the sun so we walked back to it to ask if it was dog friendly. The cutest little girl was efficiently behind the counter and informed me that “ yes they were dog friendly, inside and outside” She gave me some menus and asked me where we would like to sit and asked how many were in my party? We sat indoors as the ambience was just so lovely. I ordered the quiche and my husband ordered the ploughman’s platter. We had a pot of tea each and I was delighted to discover that decaf tea was available. The home made cakes looked sumptuous and people outside seemed to be tucking into the scones and cream with gusto. The lady behind the counter was extremely welcoming , friendly and efficient too. The young girl was her granddaughter and what a fine job she was doing at making the customers very welcome. We absolutely loved our visit today and would highly recommend this delightful tea room for food and beverages. Families are welcome and dogs made very welcome. Tucked away in the charming seaside town of Budleigh Salterton, The Cosy Teapot is a hidden gem for anyone in search of a traditional cream tea done right. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a warm, homely atmosphere and the kind smiles of Betty and her lovely team of local ladies.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the cream tea. The scones are baked fresh daily—light, fluffy, and just the right amount of crumbly. Paired with thick Devon clotted cream and delicious locally made strawberry jam, it’s a perfect taste of the West Country. The loose-leaf tea is served in charming china teapots, with beautifully mismatched vintage cups, saucers, and plates that add to the café’s nostalgic feel.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, The Cosy Teapot is a must-visit for a relaxing and authentic tea experience. Friendly service, lovingly prepared treats, and a truly cosy setting—what more could...
Read moreFirst off the staff and manager were all very friendly and welcoming.
I ordered a crab sandwich, the crab was caught locally according to the menus and the manager. The only downside to this sandwich is it has set the bar far too high for any other crab sandwich to beat it. Just thigh smackingly good.
My wife had a cheese toastie which was lovely nice flavorful cheese, side salad was enormous and varied (wasn't a fan of the fruit but didn't bother me).
Then we had cream teas (plain) all of that was amazing. Lovely coffee and tea.
I'd I'm ever within an hours drive of this place I'm going no questions.
It also looks great very old fashioned. I wish I could have tried more of the cakes on offer as they all looked homemade...
