The Star Inn - JD Wetherspoon — Restaurant in East Devon

We have been going to the Star for a while for breakfast which on the whole is very nice but always cold. We have mentioned on several occasions that the beans, egg and especially the bacon is stone cold. Plates are not even warm which makes it worse. On one occasion I was told the plates were cold because we had turned up early at 8.15 and they havent got the warming cabinet upto temperature which is fine, I have worked in several kitchens and all have had a hot plate counter to put them under. Then on sunday of last week we thought we would give them a try again and yet again the food was cold. Also i was told when the food came to the table that they only do a large or traditional breakfast not a small like I ordered. Not complaining about the bigger portions but I think I was given two traditionals because they were ready plated in the kitchen as the food was out about 1 minute after I got to my table. Not cooked fresh to our order, I understand that during busy times they would cook a tray of bacon etc and plate to keep warm but not at 8.30 in the morning! The server did ask whether i was happy which I said no it is cold which he offered to sort but I pointed out that it always happens and I d paid for a hot breakfast and not to worry. Please can someone sort the hot food situation as it is a family friendly place and the food tastes good but cold. Several friends and colleagues have said exactly the same and the issue needs addressing. Many thanks...

STRAY AND DISEASED CATS ON TABLES!!!

I normally come here frequently but that will be changing now: I ordered a meal of fish & chips with chicken strips and a drink which was standard; you get what you pay for at any Weatherspoons. Throughout my time here 2 stray cats wondered around looking for scraps but mostly minding there business. A gentleman in a white shirt who I presume was a manager "of sorts" was aware and yet made no signal to deal with the matter and just walked off many times. The cats were on top of the tables that had people sat at and were being pushed away by some. A young waitress also saw them and went to get the manager man from before who again just shrugged and the stray cats there, again making no effort to sort the matter. The night of this affair I felt rough and was up all night being sick and worse. Whether it was the cats or an uncooked meal item this Weatherspoons has thrown hygiene out of the window and have little care for it. Truly disgusting and a very unpleasant couple of days no thanks to the staff at the star Inn.

I will not be eating here and a TripAdvisor complaint will be made also. I know that the staff aren't paid that well but surely customer service means something? I guess not...

Very disappointing food today!

It was my birthday so I went with family and friends to celebrate and unfortunately we couldn’t order any pizzas or garlic bread on the app so I asked why and was told the pizza oven was broken! I then opted for a burger from the Christmas menu which was just a burger with a slice of brie in! it was missing the pigs in blankets and was dry and tasteless with no sauces? the chips were ok we ordered hallomini fries which are normally really nice but they came out as burnt bits of batter with no chilli dipping sauce? They charged me on the app for an extra drink so I had to go to the till for a refund on the drink my friend was missing her onion rings and the others in our party just had coffees overall the worst meal I’ve ever had there! I mentioned it to the girl when she collected our plates and she just said they were short on lots of things and we should have been told at the time of ordering not sure how they could tell us when you order on the app she then walked off very uninterested! There were dirty plates everywhere and sticky tables maybe they were short staffed due to covid either way the food was poor and so was the service and not worth...
