Mamma Mia Portuguese Flavour is a fairly recent addition to the Honiton Restaurant/Coffee Bar scene, it's located in the same, now refurbished, premises as the old Lacemakers Cafe. The name sounds Italian, if only it were so, but the food is Portuguese/South African inspired. Their Portuguese Custard Tarts (Pasteis de Nata) are delicious, very moorish and worth a visit alone. The Menu is very unusual and won't be suitable for everyone, there are Chips but no accompanying Vegetables, Side-salads are available, they don't offer Beef Burgers or Pasta, but a small range of Pizza's are offered. Their prices are very reasonable, but some adaptation to Honiton's Tastes may be required if they want to thrive. They are located at the quiet end of the High Street and they don't open until 11am which is too late for most Breakfasts, but they are available for Dinner as closing time is at 9pm (10 pm on Saturday.) The Restaurant is nicely decorated, if green is your thing, and the Family Proprietors are very friendly and helpful. We have tried them twice so far, once for Coffee & Custard Tarts, which were very good but oddly there was no Chocolate Powder topping on the Cappuccinos, and for Takeaway Fish and Chips which was excellent, freshly cooked and in good portions. They now have an Alcohol Licence so you can't take in your own drinks along any more. We asked them about their late opening for Breakfast but apparently they found a 10 am start too quiet, that's a shame, and doubtless their location is against them as folk are often queuing to get a table at 10 am at Toast or The Vine Inn at the opposite end of the High Street. Our next visit will be a walk into town for Dinner at Mama Mia's to...
Read moreWell looking at the other reviews. They have must have had a bad evening with us! I have eaten in many Portuguese restaurants either in Portugal or in London. It was a real disappointment. No real choice either. Friendly enough but waited for over an hour & 10 minutes. No apology, nothing. Not even an offer of drinks as we kept ordering because of the wait & it was hot. Chicken & my fish was dry. Horrid chips overdone with garlic salt. No side salad garnish. My desert tasted stale It had that old chocolate taste. Cerainly wasnt fresh. After a couple of mouthfuls left it. Husband tried a bit. Def stale he said.I should have had the pasteis de nata if they're as good as they're supposed to be. Won't visit again as we both had dodgy stomachs the...
Read moreWe have had a really lovely evening celebrating my brother’s birthday tonight thanks to Momma Mia! It was most of our parties first time and we have all been so very impressed. The service was super friendly and incredibly accommodating. The food was really yummy and super reasonably priced. Two of us are vegetarian and we loved our food. We and the lovely staff sang happy birthday and they kindly accommodated a cake we had brought in, before gifting one of their home made puddings to him. 🥰 I brought two of these gorgeous puddings home and I can’t describe how incredible they are! We will be back to eat at Momma Mia’s and would highly recommend anyone local or passing by to visit and enjoy this experience for themselves. Thank you Momma...
