PizzaExpress — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

If you really do want to frequent a Pizza Express, there are far better venues 20 min away. My advice, avoid the Stortford chain.

Sorry to have to leave such a poor review, if you read my other reviews you’ll learn I very rarely leave such low scores, however when choosing a venue to spend a considerable amount of money on a meal for my family and I, Pizza Express should be a venue that one can rely on. Sadly, the Pizza Express in Bishops Stortford did not live up to this expectation.

To begin with, we had to ask twice for a kids menu, I believe our waitress may have misheard us the first time.

When ordering a jug of water, we were giving a fairly small jug as opposed to larger jugs we have received from other Pizza Expresses.

When our starters/appetisers came out, the Olives were left behind.

For our mains, for my children and I, no issues. Food was fine and brought to us on time. However, my wife ordered a Vegan Gardiniera - what came to her was a Gardiniera but not vegan, it had prawns on it. By the time her actual pizza came out, the kids and I had practically finished.

What makes this worse, the waitress apologised profusely and stated the pizza would not be charged on our bill. Sadly this was not the case and we were charged and paid full price.

All this plus we are in a fairly small room squashed in tightly with other guests. I also noticed the tell tale signs of misbehaved children with red wax crayon drawn on the wall.

I highly doubt we will eat at this venue again. The Pizza Express in Harlow is far better and actually feels like you are eating in a restaurant. Bishops Stortford did not establish the atmosphere or live up to the service for such a...

This pizza express needs a total overhaul!!! The place is dirty with food stains on the walls, poorly decorated with hooks for pictures that no longer hang and poorly laid out, it's cramped to say the least! The property was a 16th century pub, but that doesn't mean it has to resemble a 16th century pub! With service that would have been poor back in the 1500's! Waited 15 minutes to be seated, after we had reserved a table! Waitress was rude, huffing, puffing and tutting with every request that was made of her! She would ask if everything was all right and not even wait for an answer!!! Food was ok, nothing special and the price was good but only because we had a voucher for 25% off the bill! Stortford has so many Italians and I've eaten in most of them, Pizza express is far and away the worst! I've been to Papa Johns which is no frills but is far and away 10 times better than this place!!!!! My advice, go to Unico, Zizi or Prezzo!!!! With Carluccios open now as well, if the owner of BS pizza express is reading this, you need to buck your ideas up or you're going out of business!!! When my wife and 3 little girls walked into the restaurant tonight approximately 9 pm the waitress confronted us stateing one of the chefs had coving 19 .and that she could not serve us Upon this information I received i felt very confused So I ask her why they were open and still serving food ? She did not answer and called the manager who relayed the same thing so obviously I was troubled by this as it is life or death with covid 19 and could not understand why they were still serving. im from an Irish traveller background and have never entered this restaurant before I feel this was the real reason for not serving my family.
