Prezzo Italian Restaurant Bishops Stortford — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

My wife and I went last night with two friends, one of whom had booked a table. When we arrived I asked if we could go in the back part as both my wife and I are hard of hearing and the front (formerly a bar attached to the former George Hotel) can be quite noisy. I didn't recognise any of the staff, but it is some weeks since we had been and when I book I always ask if he can be seated in the back part near the ovens because it is much quieter and peaceful. I always get my request, even if some times a little reluctantly. I was astonished to be told that they only opened the back part at "weekends". This was something new and if I had booked, I am afraid that I would have left on being told this as there are six restaurants including Bills, Cote and Pizza Express within a hundred yards. I didn't want to upset our fellow guests so I stayed quiet and - for once - It wasn't too noisy as there were only a few tables occupied. The food and wines were ok, but I am afraid if you stick to this rule about the back part, you will lose my custom in the future. First and last time I will go there. Firstly we had to hang around by the door with a load of people to wait to be seated at a table for two even though we had booked and there was a table free. It took an hour for our starters to arrive and a further hour for our main meal. I didn't even bother with the dessert that I was really looking forward to as I didn't want to wait another hour. I couldn't even let the time pass by sipping a nice glass of wine or two being pregnant. We were ignored. Everyone else had to wait the same amount of time it was such a joke the people on the table behind cheered when our main meal eventually came up. We were told they had different chefs that weren't used to their kitchen and so there is a delay, well yeah I think we had already assumed there was a delay having waited an hour already! If they had just explained to people when they arrived and given them the choice when they came in if they wanted to wait. And for the people that waited as long as us they could have as a good will gesture taken something off the bill but by not handling the situation I think unfortunately they lost a lot of custom...
