Star Bishop's Stortford — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

Re-writing this review as last night the service wasn't good. We went out as a group of six, ordered food & drink. One of our party ordered sweet potato fries, which came, only for ANOTHER set of sweet potato fries to arrive five minutes later. We established that no one had ordered this, but we'd take them if they order had been doubled by mistake.

Five minutes after this, when one of my friends had eaten an amount of the fries, we were quite aggressively asked if we'd "eaten a second set of sweet potato fries that we hadn't ordered" (another table opposite us, who had actually ordered the fries also mentioned to us from across the room at their confusion as to why they were being so angry about it) and then demanded we pay for the second set that had been mistakenly delivered to our table.

This had formerly been one of my group of friend's favourite pub in Stortford, but after this experience I'll be cancelled my table reservation today and avoiding from now on.

I understand that sometimes servers have bad days, I'm very much an advocate for being polite and kind to those serving you in these kinds of establishments, but the pub was not busy by any means at all, and this treatment is just not acceptable for...

Honestly, this is probably the worst service I have ever received. Came here as we were staying over before flying tomorrow, parked in the car park that was outside the pub- there was no signs outside stating it was only for staff and I was asked to move my car so a member of staff could park their car. I was polite and did so, even though I felt that this was actually quite rude considering it was a car park outside the pub. My food arrived whilst I was moving my car and my friend asked the waitress if they could keep my food warm whilst I was moving my car, which was met with a massive attitude from the member of staff. It then took a further 20 mins for our food to come back out when I got back, and it was luke warm by this point. This was discussed with the manager on charge of the shift, which she was apologetic but there was no compensation and we were not checked on again for the rest of our evening. We had also ordered a bottle of wine for £30, which they didn’t have (it happens!) but then tried to replace it with a bottle that was £20, with no mention of a refund of the price difference until we asked about this. Went to eat here on the evening of August 2nd, ordered dinner for my wife and myself and some chips for my daughter. My wife's Macaroni cheese was tasty but not as described, no spring onion and missing ingredients from the salad. Mine was a pizza, they were great full enough to customise it, but when it arrived, it smelt burnt, along turning it over, the whole base was was beyond chargrilled, it tasted and smelt burnt. I went to the bar and was dismissed almost immediately and told this is how we cook them. I said I can't eat that, it's ruined. The staff member got a team manager to speak to me and she offered me the same again, but said because this is the way we cook our food, it will be the same again when it comes to my table. I asked if I could swap it for something else from the menu and was told a straight uncaring, NO! I asked for a refund and she said she would need to talk to management and the cook. I went back to explain this too my wife and while we were talking, a member of staff just put some cash on the table and walked off. Absolutely no manners or customer service...
