Magpies Restaurant with Rooms — Restaurant in East Lindsey

One simple word describes this restaurant - perfect! From the moment we arrived we received a lovely warm welcome, attentive but not overbearing service and a comfortable relaxed setting. The food is outstanding, and a Michelin star would not be out of place here. Delicious amuse-bouche accompanied our aperitif and they set the tone for the rest of the meal. The main course of halibut was simply a stunning piece of cooking with every single element cooked to perfection and complimenting each other, clearly a sign that the chef knows how to bring a dish together without over complicating and confusing the flavours. The desserts were another delight, with the apple crumble souffle a very clever designed and executed piece of high end cuisine. If there is a better restaurant in Lincolnshire then I will eat my hat - just as long as it's cooked by this chef! There is no doubt that this restaurant is perfect for fine dining.The food was beautifully presented, with an imaginative menu and a delightful blend of flavours. Unfortunately the service was not good. It was our first visit and so we did not know the protocol. We were told to wait in a room and then after 20 minutes of being ignored went to find someone to ask for our order to be taken. We had to ask for everything like a menu and drink, no one explained why we were waiting and when a menu did arrive it was just thrown down on the table. We found the whole dining experience quite unfriendly with little engagement and this was so disappointing. At one point we were told they were very busy, but all the tables were not occupied and cheerfulness costs nothing. Looking at other poor reviews there seems to be a recurring problem regarding the coldness...

We didn’t get to enjoy the full experience but will 100% be returning, ||We stayed in the double king room that overlooked the main road, the room was stunning, cannot fault it.||We had to cut our stay short so missed breakfast unfortunately but we will be back 100% ||In ref to one of the other reviews mentioning a knock at the door early hours into the morning, we was in the room and heard a obvious knock at the door too at around 4-5am ish and as we was up anyway we answered the door pretty quick to find nobody there and not a single person milling about???? I won’t throw out the G word but it seems odd to have 2 reviews mentioning a random knock on the door late on into the night?? ||It certainly hasn’t deterred us and we will be back for another stay in horncastle in the future and we will book again.||The owner on reception was helpful and...
