My sister and I took mum out for an early Mother's Day treat, aiming to finish our visit to Horncastle here. When we walked in, all 3 staff members had their backs to the counter ( fair enough) and one was complaining to the others that she wasn't angry, but disappointed. Whatever the context, maybe that had put her in a mood. She turned and I asked if we could sit by the window. She didn't look at me, looked straight at her watch, pulled a face, sighed and said, "We shut at 3." (It was 3.01). We weren't trying to deliberately inconvenience her-we did not know it shut at 3. I said OK, was about to leave when she said, in a rude tone, "Well you're in now." I said we'd leave. She said, " If you're sure". Of course we left after such rudeness. A polite, " Sorry, but we close at 3," would have sufficed and we may have returned on another occasion. We won't. In direct contrast, The Admiral Rodney had finished serving food as they had a wedding to attend to, but the waitress was very friendly and said she would ask the chef if they could do desserts for us,...
Read moreMy partner and I love coming here, whenever we go to horncastle for the day. We keep it simple and have a sausage bap each. The fantastic part about this cafe is that they clearly care about the products they are using. Boston sausage baps, not the rubbish you'd expect from any cafe on the coast. The coffee is well made too. I had a fantastic flat white. I didn't get asked if I wanted a large one either which is most definitely a positive start! My only slight change I'd make would be to review the coffee they use, there are some fantastic roasters out there these days, and a place like this definitely suits the best in class.
Its a nice atmosphere, good staff, always clean and tidy. Will definitely be back on our next visit to horncastle for my sausage buttie...

I have to say we were served one of the nicest breakfasts Iv ever eaten and the tea and flat white were tasty too. Delicious! Really impressed by the quality of the produce used and everything on the plate was piping hot including the amazingly crispy hash brown.Had to pop into the bakery shop attached , what an amazing choice …….very tempted by so many things , eventually purchased a traditional plum loaf, same white bread we had just eaten toasted (sliced for me) custard slice , fresh cream apple puff and some fruit scones all of which were baked to perfection. We will definitely return when we come back to the area in...
