The Thatch — Restaurant in East Suffolk

Have visited this establishment on many occasions but was bitterly disappointed with most recent visit and probably won't go back. The staff attitude left a lot to be desired, no exchanging of potato choices (needed due to intolerance), we had our springer spaniel with us and one waitress regaled us of the story of how her springer was shot when she took it shooting. I really didn't need to know this especially as she then said she'd rehomed her as she could no longer go shooting! We were all quite upset by this story and this lady should think before she tells any other dog lover. There was a broken large umbrella in outside seating area needed due to hot sun and our dog was with us so couldn't sit inside, when asked if they had umbrellas for the smaller tables the answer was NO. We’ve eaten here quite a few times over the past 3 years. The food is usually of pretty good quality and the wait time is not too long. We have however had a couple of not so great experiences. We turned up at 15:30 one afternoon and were told they had closed early. We’d just paid for parking so had effectively wasted money. Today, we ordered 2 lots of Vegan Burger with chips. The server waited until we had paid before telling us that they have no chips and that we would be given sautéed potatoes instead. This should have been advised prior to payment, as I would have selected an alternative dish. The irony is, when we asked if we could swap an ingredient on the Vegetarian Breakfast before, we were told that swaps are not allowed. I guess they are when it’s Thatch doing the swaps. I won’t...

A busy and bustling place enjoyed by all ages. Lovely views of the sea. Unfortunately it was a stunningly hot day and none of the windows open and the air con wasn't on. I did ask and was told they weren't allowed to change the settings! It rather spoilt our visit as we were feeling sick due to the heat.

The main meals coming out looked lovely and a decent price, the ladies next to us said ther food was delicious. I had coffee and cake as did my friend, the coffee was lovely but unfortunately my cake (a type of lemon meringue pie) wasn't very nice, but that could just be personal choice.
